Are you searching for ways to bring more happiness into your life? Would you like a free resource that will guide you, for an entire year, to help you accomplish this?
I had the opportunity to interview PositivePsychopedia.com's Kira Newman to talk about her new experiment, called the "Year of Happy."
As Kira puts it on her site:
Positive psychology, the science of happiness, is learning new things every day about how to bring more positive emotions and meaning to our lives. But the trick is sorting through the mess of sensational media headlines and dry academic papers and applying those lessons – can we do it?
In this course, each month of 2015 will focus on one skill or activity proven to make us happier, like optimism, relationships, meaning, and goals (see below). As we practice new life habits, we’ll also be learning through readings, videos, and discussions."
Kira is a digital journalist who has published over 1,300 articles on sites like The Huffington Post and Tech Cocktail. One of her earlier courses, The Honesty Experiment, was featured on Psychology Today and attracted participants from around the world.
If you're searching for more happiness, you'll want to make sure you catch this interview!
Kira Soltanovich grew up in San Francisco during a time when there were bad neighborhoods, cheap coffee and it wasn’t ironic to ride the cable cars. She began her career in comedy back in 1998 right after asking her immigrant Russian parents if they were copacetic with her desires to become a stand up comedian. After her mother and father confessed “It’s not like you’re smart enough to be a doctor” Kira took that as their blessing to pursue her dreams and she’s never looked back,
She was a series regular on the hidden camera show Girls Behaving Badly for 4 seasons, and was a correspondent on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno for over 8 years.
Kira has appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Last Call with Carson Daly, Hell’s Kitchen, Last Comic Standing, Set List TV, Nick Mom, Hello Ross! and The World Stands Up. She has written and performed with Joan Rivers, Scott Baio, Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber. And if that doesn’t impress you, I don’t know what will.
She’s been a writer on How’d You Get So Rich? for TV Land and Prankstars on Disney.
Her half hour Showtime special, Here Comes Trouble, won Best Stand Up Special by a Soviet.*
(*There is no such award)
Kira’s three year old son inspired her to have her very own podcast. On The Kira Soltanovich Show, Kira interviews other fellow comedians who have kids and they discuss all things comedy and colic related.
Former Illinois running back/fullback Carey Davis joins Joe Lisi on The Weekly Bitz. Davis played from 2000-2003 and caught 114 passes for 751 receiving yards with 5 touchdowns. He also rushed for 1,012 yards and 1 touchdown on the ground.
Davis was a tough hard nosed player that played the game with intensity and heart. Davis had a blue collar attitude that epitomized the Illini team. Davis played special teams and did the "dirty" work between the tackles. He was an outstanding blocker and utilized in the passing game because of his pass catching ability. Davis was an all-around back that was the ultimate team player. He played the game with great emotion and played every down with his best effort.
Davis became an undrafted free agent in 2004 and played in the NFL from 2004-2010 winning a Super Bowl with the Pittsburgh Steelers in their victory over the Arizona Cardinals in Tampa Bay.

Today's guest is former police officer from South Carolina, Raeford Davis. Mr. Davis contacted me to ask if I would have him on to talk about LEAP(Law Enforcement Against Prohbition)
His bio(edited for length) from the LEAP site.
"I was misguided for participating in the war on drugs and my actions as a cop made things worse."
Raeford Davis served the City of North Charleston police department for six years, including four years as a patrol officer and two as a special victims unit detective. At the time, North Charleston was ranked the 8th most dangerous city in America. Before becoming a police officer, he served in the United States Coast Guard Reserves. He graduated from Charleston Southern University with a B.S. in Criminal Justice.
His perspective changed after patrolling a drug-plagued neighborhood nicknamed “4-Way.” He explains, “Children as young as 10 were recruited by older gang members to openly sell drugs, rob customers, and intimidate local residents. The kids were specifically recruited to sell drugs because they received less punishment if caught. As soon as I locked up one of these dealers, another younger one would take his place.” He realized that as long as gangs could make immense profits selling drugs, they would continue recruiting kids.
Raeford believes that we should legally regulate drugs to stop the violence and victimization of communities.Today, Raeford lives in Charleston. He retired in 2007, after being injured in the line of duty.
Doing my best to help the Lord set the brushfires of freedom in the hearts of men and to restore America, God willing, to the beacon of freedom she was meant to be.
