Join Book Club Girl as she welcomes Kathleen McCleary to discuss her new novel, A Simple Thing.
When Susannah Delaney discovers her young son is being bullied and her adolescent daughter is spinning out of control, she moves them to remote, rustic Sounder Island to live for a year. A simple island existence—with no computers or electricity and only a one-room schoolhouse—is just what her over scheduled East Coast kids need to learn what's really important in life. But the move threatens her marriage to the man she's loved since childhood, and her very sense of self.
For Betty Pavalak, who moved to Sounder to save her own troubled marriage, the island has been a haven for fifty years. But Betty also knows the guilt of living with choices made long ago and actions that cannot be undone. The unlikely friendship between Susannah and Betty ignites a journey of self-discovery for both women and brings them both home to what they love most. A Simple Thing moves beyond friendship, children, and marriages to look deeply into what it means to love and forgive—yourself.
In Leaving Haven, Kathleen McCleary, author of A Simple Thing, explores the intricacies of love, friendship, and parenthood.
Georgia longs for a baby, but she's had miscarriage after miscarriage since her daughter was born more than a decade ago. Through a miraculous egg donation, Georgia is thrilled to find herself pregnant—until she makes a startling discovery that changes her mind about how much she really wants the baby…
Georgia’s best friend, Alice, has a happy teenage daughter, a faithful husband, and a perfectly organized life. But her world spins off its axis when she falls for a man who is everything she knows she doesn’t want…
Leaving Haven is a provocative and touching novel that will appeal to readers of contemporary fiction and fans of Jodi Picoult, Luanne Rice, and Kristin Hannah.

Have you ever considered how the cellular level of your body is similar to the cellular phone most of us use every day? We are so influenced by exterior forces in the world that we often don't realize that we have all the answers inside. On Monday, Aug. 11, noon PDT/3 p.m. EDT/8 p.m. UK. Kathleen Ellis will tell us about the importance of healing to the cellular level.
In 1995, successful in a 20+-year real estate career, Kathleen suddenly found herself with that age-old question “Is this all there is? What does it take to be truly fulfilled and happy?” Realizing that her passion was public speaking, she left the corporate world, developed workshops to help others with the talents she spent many years attaining, and began her seminar business. Fate, however, had a different plan. Kathleen talks about that in her workshops and her book The Darkness Cannot Keep Us: Choosing A Better Tomorrow. Now, Kathleen is focusing her business on helping individuals bring confidence back for what they have lost with their own life experiences. Utilizing innate tools instilled in all of us, she helps you reconnect with that essential part of yourself that drives you toward success.
Each Monday at 12 noon PST/3 pm EST/8 pm UK, our host, Cindy Freeman, and her guests bring insights and ideas to help you grow in your Soul path.
