Traveling Maryland's "Star-Spangled Banner" Trail
In honor of the Bicentennial of the War of 1812, World Footprints will travel the "Star-Spangled Banner" Trail by land and by sea through Maryland. Our first stop will be two historical sites in Baltimore--Ft. McHenry and the Star-Spangled Banner Flag House. Then we will explore Southern Maryland and travel to historic Jefferson Patterson Park and the Sotterley Plantation where we’ll learn about the two largest naval battles in Maryland’s history—the Battles of St. Leonard Creek. Finally, we will travel to Maryland’s capital in Annapolis to visit the U.S. Naval Academy for a behind-the-scenes tour of the Academy where we’ll learn about many artifacts from the War of 1812.

Author Spotlight on Shewanda Pugh "Crimson Footprints"
This episode features an Author Spotlight on Shewanda Pugh, author of the Crimson Footpints Trilogy.
Shewanda Pugh is a native of Boston’s inner city, though she now calls sunny Miami, Florida home. She has a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Alabama A&M University and a Master’s in Writing from Nova Southeastern University. Fueled from a young age, her passion for crossing societal boundaries like race, class and culture, is the inspiration for both her cluttered bookshelf and her writing. When she’s not busy obsessing over fiction, she can be found traveling, nursing her social networking addiction or enjoying the company of loved ones.

Eastern Montana - From Dinosaurs to Drag Car Racing
World Footprints travels through Eastern Montana and explores the history and diversity of Big Sky Country's eastern border. Today we'll fulfill a "need for speed" when we go drag car racing at Phillips County Motor Sports Dragstrip in Malta with racing champions Shaun and Dillion Carnahan. We'll travel along the vast landscape of the Hammond Ranch where some of the most significant dinosaur discoveries have been made. From Malta we'll head south to Billings and go behind the scenes at the Dino Lab where prehistoric creatures are restored fossil-by-fossil. Finally, we'll visit the elegant Moss Mansion former home to Billings founder Preston Boyd Moss. We'll learn how Moss' vision for Billings and his world travels influenced the city's growth and his home's design.

Explorer Richard Wiese and Cherry Blossoms in DC
Today World Footprints will go on some remarkable adventures and we’ll review the history of friendship between the United States and Japan.
Mary Anne Potts started on the editorial staff of National Geographic Adventure magazine in 2001 and has moved up the ranks from there. She has run the magazine’s website and launched its social media presence to run Adventure as a standalone digital brand for National Geographic.
Richard Wiese has been called the modern day Indiana Jones. He is a world-class explorer and host of ABC’s Born to Explore. As an explorer and field scientist Richard has traveled to all seven continents. From tagging jaguars in the Yucatan jungles to discovering new life forms on Mt. Kilimanjaro, Richard became the youngest President of The Explorers Club.
Each year, the National Cherry Blossom Festival celebrates spring in Washington, DC, with the gift of the cherry blossom trees, and the enduring friendship between the people of the United States and Japan. This year marks the the 101 anniversary of the gift of cherry trees from Tokyo, Japan.
