Sharon L. Simmons has been busy. She is the creator of the revolutionary iGotEm app. You can download the app here. This community-oriented app transforms everyday citizens into crime fighters. As part of her efforts, she has recently received an award from YesWeCode founder, Van Jones, while she was particiapting in the first ever HackaThon to take place during the 2014 Essence Music Festival in New Orleans. Will Moss is President & CEO of HBCU CONNECT, LLC and has been in this position since founding HBCUConnect.com in June of 1999. HBCU CONNECT, LLC owns and operates the largest Historically Black College & University website in existence and reaches approximately 350,000 website visitors each month.
Mr. Moss, a 1995 graduate of Hampton University in Hampton, Virginia, graduated as the top Computer Science scholar in his class and went on to work as a lead software engineer for AT&T Bell Labs from 1995 until starting HBCUConnect.com in 1999. Mr. Moss is also considered an expert in internet topology, internet marketing, and online diversity recruitment strategies.
In 2010, Moss launched a number of social networking websites for the African American community, including sites such as BlackHistory.com, AfricanAmericanCareers.com, BlackWomenConnect.com, and was recently a guest on the “Monique Show” on BET talking about a new project, BlackRomance.com, the largest free dating site for African American professionals.
William often gives presentations to college students on entrepreneurship, career preparation, and the relevancy of technology to African Americans. Moss’ experience in corporate America as an intern, employee, and consultant lead to the development of HBCU Connect as an answer to the lack of an existing platform for HBCU students and graduates to communicate, network and take advantage of related opportunities.
Jacquelyn Thomas is the Founder and Executive Director of Kids-N-Technology. Since 2002, Kids-N-Technology has worked to inspire students to improve their performance in Science, Engineering, Technology, and Math (STEM).
KNT partners with elementary, middle, and high schools; colleges and universities; community centers; nonprofit and faith based organizations, to implement Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) enrichment summer camps and after-school programs.
KNT’s weekly summer camps are engaging and fun. Students enjoy designing and building their own laptops, Apps, robots, games, roller coasters, or learning how to code, blog, or create wardrobe color cards for personal image analysis.
