    in Christianity

"What should we learn from the life of Gideon?"  Pastor Michael Crow and Carnita Smith will comb through some meaningful points in Judges chapters 6-8 with the focus on Gideon's obedience to God in Judges 7:7-8.  The highlights of Gideon's life include his victorious battle against Isreal's enemies and his amazing faith as mentioned in Hebrews 11:32-34.  Gideon proves himself to be faithful, a mighty warrior, a strong leader of men and a diplomat (Judges 7:17, 8:1-3).  The qualities of Gideon as a judge likens to the God we serve "Jehovah".  He is mighty in battle, He is faithful in all his glory, He is our King!  Let everything that have breath Praise the Lord!

HERE COMES THE JUDGE! series 3

    in Christianity

What is the story behind Deborah and Barak in Judges chapter 4 & 5?  Well we will look at the courageous work of the both of them together in conquering the Canaanites as God commanded in prior chapters.  How we coward back because of fear and become useless for the work or call of God, this is not what He has called us to do.  According to 2 Timothy 1:7 says "For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind", so Children of God are to take courage, trust and obey the will of God because of his sovereignty. Pastor Michael Crow and Carnita Smith will continue with the study of "Here Comes the Judge!" series 3.

Judge Stanley Hill Prepares Youth To Become Powerful Orators For Justice

    in Women

As many citizens across the country are reacting with anger to the Grand Jury's decision to file no charges against police officer Darren Wilson in the shooting death of unarmed teen Michael Brown, there are those who have launched a proactive strategy in the fight for justice.  Judge Stanley Hill has worked for the last several years coordinating the PUSH Excel Oratorical Contest, an event in which youth in grades 1 through 12 memorize some of history's most powerful speeches in the areas of peace and justice. Judge Hill coaches these youth and prepares them to compete in a stimulating and enjoyable rhetorical competition that focuses on the persuasive power of eloquent, inspirational speech. These are the perhaps future lawyers who will present arguments before courts and win cases.  What better way to fight back against injustice than to prepare future leaders who can be the orators that awaken their peers to the principles of truth, honor, and righteousness? Some of those whose memorable speeches will be recited by students in the upcoming contest Saturday December 20, 2014 include President Barack Obama, Langston Hughes, Robert Frost, Nikki Giovanni, and The Girl Who Silenced the United Nations for Five Minutes. Judge Hill explains his motivation for empowering these youth with outstanding speaking skills, and what the memorization of such impressive words will do in shaping their character. Later, we'll be joined by organizers in Missouri who reflect on how to take the energy of anger in the protesters and use it to create constructive change across the country.

THE U.S. DISTRICT COURT JUDGE AND HIS BLOODIED WIFE

    in Current Events

Did you know There's a U.S. district court judge in Alabama who was arrested in August after his wife called 9-1-1 crying and being audibly beaten by her husband?  The police report says the good judge blodied the woman's face and legs and dragged her around the room by her hair. On top of that, his first wife reports he did much the same to her during their marriage. So what's happening?  What happens much too often in these cases: he took a plea deal that requires him to see a counsellor once a week for 24 weeks and the whole thing disappears from his record. The community wants him out. The fact is, this man was appointed a judge for life and unless he resigns or is impeached by the U.S. congress, he will still be on the bench hearing cases involving domestic violence and other crimes. And he will sit in judgement of others while his own messy background goes away.  Huh?

That's right, no jail time, no conviction, even, eventually, no record of arrest.  Is this a guy you want to stand before in a court of law?

This week we are welcoming Staci Zaretsky, an editor of ABOVE the Law, and a contributor to other legal publications such as Judgepedia, Lawyerist, and Ms. JD. She's been featired on various TV and radio programs including CNBC's Power Lunch, HuffPost Live, and Chicago Public Radio. Staci is a gruaduate of Lehigh University and Western New England University School of Law. She has been published in the Western New England Law Review.  She is going to help us figure out what this case is about, how it compares to other domestic violence cases, and what's going on with Judge Mark Fuller.
