Jack the Ripper stalked the streets of London’s East End from August through November of 1888 in what is dubbed the ‘Autumn of Terror’. However, the grisly ripping of Polly Nichols on August 31st was not the first unsolved murder of the year. The April murder of Emma Smith and the August murder of Martha Tabram both occurred on bank holidays. They baffled the police and press alike and were assumed by the original investigators to have been the first murders in the series. Where they correct? In this provocative work of literary archeology, author Tom Wescott places these early murders in their proper historical context and digs to unearth new evidence and hard facts not seen in over 125 years. The Bank Holiday Murders is the only book of its kind. It eschews the tired approach of unsatisfying ‘final solutions’ in favor of solid research, logical reasoning and new information. The clues followed are not drawn from imagination but from the actual police reports and press accounts of the time. The questions asked by Wescott are ones first suggested by the original investigators but lost to time until now. The answers provided are compelling and sometimes explosive. Among the revelations are: • New information linking the murders of Smith & Tabram to the same killer(s). • Proof that the police did not believe key witnesses in either case. • Proof that at least one of these witnesses was working with the murderer. • New evidence connecting many of the victims that may lead to their actual slayers. • Information on Emily Horsnell, the ACTUAL first Whitechapel murder victim. • The hidden truth of ‘Leather Apron’ and its role in unraveling the Ripper mystery. • Proof of a corrupt police sergeant who thwarted the investigation. Was he protecting the Ripper? THE BANK HOLIDAY MURDERS: The True Story of the First Whitechapel Murders-Tom Wescott.

She's not Billie, not Judy, not Jennifer, not Carmen, not Nancy, it's Cynthia Holiday!
Cynthia Holiday is a real crowd pleaser and her renditions of straight-ahead jazz, blues and pop standards are full of swing, improvisation and soul. Clearly, singing live before an audience is where she feels most comfortable.
Kevin Mahogany says, "I met Cynthia many years ago when I used to frequent various jam sessions in Harlem clubs. I was struck by her ability to quickly command the stage. Cynthia has fantastic stage presence and it's time for her music to be heard."
Cynthia says "I love the up-and-close feeling of performing in small, intimate venues like SMOKE or Showmans Jazz Club in NYC. I also enjoy the thrill of performing for an audience of 10,000 + people at outdoor events like the Harlem Jazz & Blues Festival or Hartford Jazz Festival." Following her performance, the Hartford Courier's music review said of Cynthia "She may have been unfamiliar to the audience, but Holiday quickly won over the crowd with her blues-soaked swing and charming banter."
Since the 2008 release of her debut album, All The Way, on the Miles High Records Label, Cynthia Holiday has made new fans and friends in the US and internationally. Most recently she served as a judge in the 2013 Asian Dreams Jazz Vocal Competition followed by a performance with the TS Monk Septet in Osaka, Japan.
Cynthia's gifted vocals and natural inclination for jazz is attributed to her upbringing in Newark, New Jersey where music filled her home on any given day. Her stepfather, trumpeter Calvin Hughes was a band leader and performed with such jazz greats as Count Basie, Frank Foster, Clark Terry, Eddie "Lockjaw" Davis, and Big Maybelle.
Easter in Jamaica is a very popular time of year. The holiday was introduced to the island around the 17th century by the Europeans who brought with them their religion, Christianity. During the slavery period, the enslaved Africans were given a day off in observance of this Easter holiday. However, it was not until the 19th century, when missionaries were active in the island, that the slaves really referred to the holiday as Easter and understood its significance.
In Jamaica over the years, the one-day holiday grew to be a four to five day observance, beginning with Holy Thursday and continuing until the following Monday, known as Easter Monday. Some Christian denominations use this time to observe the death and resurrection of Christ.
Like any other holiday, Easter is associated with several traditions. Probably the most common feature of Easter in Jamaica is the eating of bun and cheese. Easter buns in Jamaica are made with lots of spices, dried fruits and stout. The dough is shaped in the form of a loaf, which when baked, is wrapped in cellophane paper and sometimes packed in decorative boxes.
Host Cyrus Webb welcomes recording artist Cynthia Holiday to #ConversationsLIVE to discuss her love of music and what it's been lie to share that with the world.
