Join Holly Stephey as she talks to Ed Kleinman who in his words "This is my journey from listening to the bands of the mid 1950's to working with bands in the 60's and 70's. It is filled with stories regarding musicians in a time where the music industry was changing as quickly as the social and political climate."
One tells a story of days gone by. A flash of your history, a snapshot of an instant.
Be it a minute, an hour, a day, or a year, it matters none.
Something jogs your brain cells where past history is stored.
You smile, and you think you have something worth telling.
*Ed Kleinman’s story chronicles his 18 years in the music industry from 1966 to 1984. He started as a part-time roadie making just enough money to buy cigarettes and put gas into his car. Eventually, he was able to hang out with musicians and tell lovely young ladies, “I’m with a band. You wanna meet one of ‘em?”
It tells how he was able to form his own entertainment company until he left the business world of rock and roll.
Those years brought a great deal of change to the music world and to all corners of society. The youth fought for equality for all, protested the Vietnam War and marched against it. The music got stronger, more political and more active in supporting change.
The 18 years he had in the music industry helped him further his career and enrich his sales force development role.
Join him as he reminisces and relives his rock and roll journey.

Birmingham, Alabama - the Magic City - saw events and courageous people who played a central role in the Civil Rights struggle. World Footprints goes on a walking tour through history along the Civil Rights Heritage Trail as we step onto the grounds where African Americans confronted Jim Crow era voilence with non-voilent civil disobedience. We will also explore Kelly Ingram Park and Birmingham's 4th Avenue Business District and discuss the time when segregation made this the city's "Little Harlem".
Brimingham is also known for it's rich musicial traditions and we'll pay homage to two iconic musical figures: Henry "Gip" Gipson whose 'juke joint' is the last standing music venue of it's kind in Alabama. Gip's Place has welcomed musicians from all over the world and every Saturday music lovers travel miles for an all-night music tailgate party on a "Sanford and Son" style lot. We will also introduce Dr. Frank Adams, Sr., a charter member of the Alabama Hall of Fame, who regaled us with stories of his life, a musical set and his time playing with greats like Ella Fitzgerald and Duke Ellington. Sadly, Doc Adams passed away only one month after our meeting with him. We are honored to showcase his music throughout today's show.
As a side note, our trip to Birmingham was a very pleasant surprise. We highly recommend a visit to Birmingham, Alabama. There's a lot waiting for visitors to discover in the city "where freedom lives".
While everyone has an actual birth date, I have “two birthdays”. There is the day I was born, and there is also the day I died for a short while on the operating table, and “lived to tell about it.” What makes this second birthday so significant is that it seems as if it has opened a realm of the mind previously closed to me.
Shortly after this near death experience, “I began to dream.” In some of these dreams I received poems, in others there were allegories, and sometimes I actually received premonitions of things to come.
While there have been many experiences of dying and returning, this one is unique to me. Right before I was revived there seemed to be no such thing as time. Knowledge was as instant as breathing. Past, present and future were all at my disposal in an instant. Everything I was, could be, might be were like the filaments of a spider web. Alone they were fragile and ethereal, but together they created a strong and intricate web that reflected my life and my choices. Each choice or movement along this path seemed to be woven in. It did not matter if the choices were good or bad, but rather it augmented the pattern that was my life. I found myself in tears, not so much for the failures or successes, but for the simple beauty that life itself was.
One of the things many I have spoken about is agreements with the Divine that we make before we come to this earth. During this time I was shown my agreement with Creator and my destiny. I was shown why I decided to be who I am, and what purpose I had here. I remember looking at the scope of this contract and feeling completely overwhelmed and humbled at the same time. I also humorously remember thinking I must have been out of my celestial mind to sign this cosmic contract. This, by the way, is not unique to me. Everyone has his or her own agreement, and Divine destiny to fulfill.
