        Guest

    Author JoDee Sanders,

He is a native of Durham, NC, and used the city as the backdrop for Sugarland. In his first major novel he has managed to weave a twisted tale that keeps readers on the edge of their seat to the end. The novel is the first of a series and includes a bonus chapter from Jo Dee's next book, Sugar-Free. Sugarland continues to earn rave reviews from readers, and it has been said that if you like the TV show, Scandal, then you will love Sugarland.
Local author, Jo Dee, has always had a passion for writing; but it was a blow from the local economy that proved to be the blessing in disguise for the budding author. Now Jo Dee has turned his passion into a business, starting his own publishing company and writing and releasing his first novel, Sugarland, in the span of 6 months.

Sugarland is available for purchase through select local bookstores, Amazon.com.

How Miami snowed the Feds in the 1980s with "cocaine running round the bay"

    in History

Jon is flabberghasted by the fact that the drug war in Miami was so intense in the early 1980s that even Ronald Reagan was advised not to enter the city of Miami at ALL.  The early 1980s was brought on by a borderless situation where drug lords overran local civil authority in Mexico, Colombia and other Central American states.  1 in every 4 people who died in Colombia died by drug related offenses.  It didn't help that by the mid 1980s, Nicaragua and El Salvador was infiltrated by the CIA who were training rebels to fight the powers that be.  This probably irritated drug lords more that America had their hand in the cookie jar.  Jon goes into the dynamics of the drug trade in Florida, not necessarily the government underpinnings.

There is a 10 minute vignette on the high school scene at McDonalds in Duluth.

Playing to Win At the Broadband Ballot Box

    in Internet

State laws mandating these public-owned broadband networks get voter approval through referendum campaigns used to mean near-certain death for any project. Kiss those days goodbye! Meet the winners who have turned the tide.

November 4, EIGHT towns and counties all passed ballot initiatives to return the authority to pursue broadband to their constituents. With 70% or more of the vote. Predominately Democrat or Republican didn’t matter. How did they do that!? Representatives of Boulder, Rio Blanco, San Miguel, Yuma County and other communities give us the scoop on how they pulled off these big wins.

    We’re going to find out:

Are the political winds blowing heavily community broadband’s way?
At the local level, is broadband now a bipartisan issue?
What tactics were effective getting these referenda passed?
What happened to the giant telcos and cable companies?
What comes next for these communities?
Will there be a flood of communities rolling out their own ballot initiatives?
