The Flint water poisoning atrocity unfolds as we learn that state workers in Flint were provided bottled water, even though they publicly assured residents of the water's safety, while privately mocking and deriding them in emails. Demands and petitions for the governor's resignation flood the Internet. The FBI has begun a criminal investigation into the Case of the Toxic Water.

5 percent of polluters create 90 percent of toxic emissions. Take a wild guess where those Super Polluter facilities are located. The Navajo water supply is also quite toxic, perhaps worse than Flint's, and the Navajos are wondering why they can't seem to generate any media attention.

Oklahoma GOP bill would ban suicidal LGBTQI teens from seeking help from queer-friendly therapists. The legislation is the latest in OK Rep. Sally Kern's crusade against gay people. Former Oklahoma officer Daniel Holtzclaw, who was convicted of raping 13 black women and sentenced to 263 years, has disappeared from the Oklahoma Dept of Corrections online database that is open to the public. In The Streets with Beverley Smith: Y'allQueda (Episode 52a)

    in Spirituality

The latest from Oregon on the armed, right-wing militia that has taken over a federal building and is threatening to meet any and all resistance with gunfire. The local authorities are handling them with careful, kid gloves -- a sharp contrast to how unarmed, peaceful Black marchers in Ferguson and nationwide have been treated. The Tamir Rice non-indictment. 12 year old Ciara Meyer, a Caucasian girl, was killed by police evicting her family from their home. It remains to be seen if people will tie themselves into knots, explaining and justifying her shooting, just like they've done to Tamir Rice. Or if she will receive swift justice.  Eric Garner's killer, the cop who choked him to death, will not be charged, but guess which police officer will be charged instead.  The US Supreme Court weighs in on Florida's death penalty laws. Former Lousiana Gov Bobby Jindal is out, and over 100,000 Lousiana residents rejoice because they can finally have healthcare. The state of Michigan knew the water in Flint was poisoned, but they served it to the largely Black community, hid evidence, botched testing, and continue to send the residents water bills.  And more.

Originally scheduled for last Tues but cancelled due to technical difficulties, this prerecorded episode will air on Thursday, January 14, 6pm Pacific

In The Streets with Beverley Smith: Flint, A Study in Environmental Racism -ep53

    in Spirituality

Flint, Michigan: environmental racism on display. The powers-that-be have knowingly, and with forethought, poisoned the tap water of the predominately black city since April 2014. This atrocity was recently uncovered and publicized, but no one has yet been held accountable. Water bills continue to be issued and the residents have been warned that they risk losing custody of their children if they don't pay for the poisoned water. The local EPA official quit last week. There is demand for Michigan's Republican govornor to resign. And there are rumors that undocumented immigrants in Flint are being refused the bottled water that has been sent to the area. Environmental racism is real. According to the The Center for Public Integrity, out of "300 complaints filed by communities of color, the EPA have never once made a formal finding of a civil-rights violation."

Another black youth has died in custody. Her name was Gynna McMillen. She was 16.

The trial of the officer who shot and killed Akai Gurley in NYC has begun. On the day he was shot, Akai Gurley was declared to be a "total innocent" by Chief Bill Bratton. But that doesn't stop the NYPD officer Peter Liang from attempting to avoid criminal responsibilty. President Obama bans solitary confinement for juveniles in federal prisons. Grand jury indicts two anti-abortion activists behind the fake Planned Parenthood videos. In response, Texas doubles down on its intention to completely financially strip the state Planned Parenthood. A federal court in North Carolina will hear a challenge to the state's restrictive voter ID law. And more. Tuesday, January 26, 6pm Pacific.
