Christ in the Passover
"The Last Supper", that famous painting by Leonardo Da Vinci, shows Christ and the disciples eating a meal at a long table in straight-backed chairs. But most Christians aren't aware that they didn't just sit down and have a supper. Oh no! This was a Seder. Our Jewish friends could tell us a thing or two about Seders. This was a specialized ritual meal, eaten every year at Passover, commemorating the exodus from Egypt. A lot of Christians don't even know that their communion "bread and wine" came right from this Seder's observance. And another thing: those disciples? They didn't sit on straight-backed chairs, either. This Thursday night, we'll look at what actually happened at that "Last Supper". It's a fascinating slice of history and culture that few realize. "The voice of thy brother's blood CRIETH unto Me from the ground," God said to Cain. This is the first instance in history of the shedding of innocent blood. What does that mean for us today? Just Old Testament history from a barbaric and by-gone era? Or is it as relevant as modern man's concern for the environment, the protection of the earth, and what Scripture means by earth's "pollution"? Tune in and take notes! Your host: Rev. The Lesson of Purim
Purim was this past Sunday. Did you miss it? Well, it's easy to miss. After all, it's only celebrated by Jews, right? But it SHOULD mean something to you if you're a Christian because it's in the Bible, in the Book of Esther. The Book of Esther's written in a way unlike anyother book of the Bible. Martin Luther had problems with it: "I want to toss this book into the River Elbe!" he said. "It judaises too much and is full of heathenish naughtiness!" Later he came 'round to believing it was divinely inspired. Thursday we discuss why, and thus what Purim has to do with Christians. Tune in and take notes! Your host, Rev. Rick Anderson, on Jewish Roots, each Thursday 9:30-10:30 pm DST at blogtalkradio.com/fougcrew. Listen LIVE through Twitter, LinkedIn, GooglePlus and Facebook.com/fougcrew. On this edition of The Realist Report, we'll be joined by Dr. E. Michael Jones, editor of Culture Wars magazine. Mr. Jones and I will be discussing his book The Jewish Revolutionary Spirit and Its Impact on World History.
St. Paul, finding himself in the midst of controversy yet again and slandered by malcontents in the very church he had started, is forced to defend his ministry at a distance through a lengthy letter which we now know as "II Corinthians." While stoutly defending his integrity, he at the same time teaches doctrine while he does it: The Holy Spirit, he say, both creates and RE-creates. What He did in Genesis chapter 1, he does also in our hearts when we're born-again. Paul's argument is an amazing display of deftness, tact, and memorable clarity. This Thursday, let's watch how he does it. Tune in and take notes! Your host: Rev. Rick Anderson on "Jewish Roots" 9:30 pm EST at blogtalkradio.com/fougrew, or through www.scripturesdramatized.com.
