Join Sonia Nadina Haynes as she interviews Barry Jakel about his newly published book, Follow The Heron's Flight Home, a book of prose and imagery.
Born in Calgary Alberta in 1948, Barry now resides on Vancouver’s North Shore. His career path included early stops in Ottawa and Calgary before beginning his goal to become a broadcaster with seventeen years in radio as an announcer and writer. It all began in 1970 with a move to 100 Mile House in British Columbia’s Cariboo Country and before it was over, his journeys took him to Quesnel, Kelowna, Vernon, and finally Vancouver’s lower mainland where he ended his broadcasting days. Barry has recently retired, after twenty-three enjoyable and memorable years in sales and marketing with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. Always an optimist, (after all, he is a die-hard Chicago Cubs fan) he is now exploring new horizons with his special life partner Maria by his side.
Barry is also author of Excuse me! Your sun is in my shadow.

When I first started my blog, a friend had me listen to this teenage youtube star with a very grown voice. Not only was her voice grown but her swag was that of a grown adult. Although very humble, she had the confidence of a singer who was meant to be a star. Well a few years later, #2 on American Idol and a deal with Interscope. Jessica Sanchez has come a long way. This young lady is such an easy sell, lets hope Interscope has the forsight just to let her grow into her stardom and truly understand her market audience (12-25 females). Tonight we spotlinght her performing "Tonight" ft Neyp, "Dance With My Father Again" and a cover of he hit "Problems". Call in at (347) 826-7743.
Sonia Nadina Haynes welcomes Samantha Chardin writer, screenwriter and professional organizer. Sam will speak on the importance of organization for optimal productivity for the writer.
Sam Chardin has travelled the world and enjoyed the opportunity to meet every sort of person you can imagine along the way.
Sam is a citizen or permanent resident of several nations. She was born in France but has spent most of her life in English-speaking countries. She’s new to Canada and loving the friendly and beautiful people of Vancouver.
Sam recently made the switch from screenwriting to novels and created a website to showcase these works as she releases them. She’s a writing veteran, but she’s new to prose.
Sam supported her freewheeling lifestyle by working as a professional organizer. This particular skill was honed by the many friends and colleagues who saw her ability to write a lot despite a busy schedule and who wanted a piece of that magic. Sam loves to nurture other creatives by bringing peace to their home. She says that the process of organization can provide clarity to creative work in unexpected ways. You have no idea how much that over-stuffed hall closet is weighing you down!

Join Sonia Nadina Haynes in a chat with Rod Baker, author of Constant Traveller #R00186
Rod grew up in England and immigrated to Canada at age 21. He worked on the tugboats until running aground and sinking in the Haida Gwai. He then found work ashore as boatbuilder.
In 1975, with a mortgage and a family, he was laid off, couldn’t find work, and started a boat repair company, which he ran for twenty years. In 1997 he retrained and opened a practice as a psychotherapist. From 2002 - 2012 he became Executive Director of non-profit mental health service providers. He is currently renovating his home and learning how to become a writer.
About The Book.
Rod is unhappy with the dullness of small town post-war England and, at age sixteen, escapes by going sea. Life aboard ship presents a host of unexpected challenges. But as the world unfolds before him, a variety of fascinating experiences capture his attention: Mao’s China, the poverty of Africa, the abundance of America, exotic Tahiti, insurgents in Aden, Sumo wrestlers, and bold Swedish women all blend together in an intoxicating kaleidoscope of cultures and adventures.
Young and impressionable, Rod tries to fit into the strange new environment of shipboard life by following the not always helpful advice and behaviours of his fellow shipmates. This is a coming-of-age tale set in the sixties on the background of the high seas. Due to an unexpected change of course, the final voyage leaves Rod high and dry in Vancouver.
