Last week marked the 15th Reunion the Gaines Family has hosted since 1986. The brainchild of my cousins, Theresa Johnson and Lula McKeever, the family roots are deeply intertwined in slavery, suffering and salvation. William and Louisa Gaines were the original slave couple, allowed to stay together as they raised their 14 children in Georgia starting in the late 1700s.
Today’s show will discuss the many ways that your family reunion can serve as the principal method to archive your family history. We’ll also use the Gaines model of knowledge transfer, where one family member passes the family leadership from one generation to the next.
Big or small... family reunions, gatherings and celebrations are excellent ways to provide a long lasting thread of family stability to your immediate and expanded family unit.

Tune in to The Gist of Freedom, The Black History Internet Radio show with host Shellie Gaines as we welcome Award winning Playwright & Author Gabrielle Pina! Gabrielle will talk to Shellie about her play "Letters From Zora" ~Starring Vanessa Bell Calloway. Letters From Zora is currently running at the crossroadstheatrecompany.org!
“Letters from Zora: In Her Own Words,” for which the meticulous and poetic Gabrielle Denise Pina, a novelist in her own right, collected Zora’s massive correspondence and crafted it into a monologue delivered at New Brunswick’s Crossroads Theatre with wit, sincerity, and majesty by Vanessa Bell Calloway.
Calloway’s feat of memory is stunning enough. In more than 100 minutes, without a chance to pause, let alone to stop for an intermission, the actress never stumbled, missed a cue for transition, or failed to articulate the genius, both as a writer, and as a woman determined to live independently according to her own principles, of Zora Neale Hurston.
Calloway’s performance is enchanting. Besides being fluid and heartfelt, it reminds us, thanks to Pina’s excellent editing and composition, how extraordinary and how pioneering Zora was.
Everything Zora for stood and fervently believed is revealed in Pina’s text, and Calloway magically embodies the grit and strongmindedness of Zora along with her femininity, abundant sense of humor, and disdain for anything false or condescending.
Yes, the words as Pina’s title tells us plainly, are Zora’s, but Pina is the one who had to take a volume of letters and make them into one cohesive, listenable and "entertaining" work."

Hey there Tea Sippers!! Today we will be taking a real look into the world of Adult Films with a twist. My guest today has revolutionized the image of Black Men in the Gay adult film industry and was the personification of the virile, dominant, masculine specimen whose sexual prowess became a standard to which many held their sexual partners. He has over 100 films to his credit and introduced the world to the concept of the BLATINO SEX PARTY craze.
However, along his journey, he never turned his back on his spiritual convictions or his allegiance to what he deems to be his higher power. After retiring from the world of Adult Entertainment, Bobby Blake returned to his birth name and is now teaching and preaching The Good News and has dedicated his ministry to being a beacon of light to those who may have taken the same road to success that he has and is looking for a better way of achieving a more fulfilling, spiritually enriched life.
Today we will be Dishing Tea with Elder Edgar Gaines and he will dish on how he has managed to build his brand in the adult industry, and how he has returned to his spiritual roots as a self defined "prodical son"
This is going to be a Deliciously HOT POT of tea for your nerve, darlings, so bring PLENTY of CRUMPETS.
