Folk pop legend Janis Ian joins host Robin Milling to talk about her autobiography Society's Child My Autobiography. Spoken by Ian herself, it has garnered her a Spoken Word Grammy nomination. While listening you are taken through her lifetime, through her childhood growing up on a chicken farm and then in East Orange, New Jersey; a predominantly black neighborhood where witnessing interracial relationships inspired her to write Society's Child when she was only 13. Making her the youngest recording artist of her time at 15, it should have been a happy time but the firestorm of death threats she received caused her to live in a state of constant fear.
Wide-eyed you can't stop listening to all 12 hours and 13 minutes of 20 chapters. Some begin with Ian singing, then narrating her uncensored stories of late night jam sessions with Jimi Hendrix, her friendship with Janis Joplin who called her 'the other Janis,' and her surprise LSD trip. Ian doesn't shy away from the unfathomable such as her dentist molesting her and her abusive marriage. She unabashedly recounts her sexual escapades; coming out and going back into the closet, and ultimately marrying the woman in her life. Never afraid to sing about the ugly things, the underdog and the disenfranchised; there was always music, which Ian says saved her.

This week Mark chats with Ian Watson
Ian Watson is an author, trainer and consultant who has worked in the field of natural health and personal transformation since 1988. He has written four books and many published articles, created numerous audio programmes and travelled extensively giving seminars, courses and retreats around the world.
Ian became widely known as a speaker and writer in homeopathy, which he taught and practised until 2003. He has also studied and practiced a wide range of techniques for emotional and psychological well-being, always seeking out the simplest and most effective methods he could find.
Ian’s work is now based exclusively on the understanding of mind, thought and consciousness, uncovered by the late Sydney Banks. Learning the principles has proven to be the ‘missing link’, pulling together all of the threads that Ian has explored during the past three decades.
Ian has completed an intensive Three Principles Trainer’s Training programme with Cathy Casey and Dr Mark Howard, and founded The Insight Space in 2013 as a vehicle for his own principle-based training programmes and seminars.
Ian has taught the principles to many groups in the UK and Ireland, and also in Croatia, Canada, Egypt, Finland, Bulgaria, Serbia, Greece and the Czech Republic. He also works as a consultant trainer for a multi-national company.

Today on Voices of Global Freedom we are interviewing Ian Mackenzie a well known film maker! We must love our own aliveness so deeply, that we reject any further participation in a system that does not honour the gifts with which we have been bestowed. We must love the world so deeply that we have no choice but to bow in service to the beauty that is waiting for us, patiently, to re-member. My short film, in collaboration with Charles Eisenstein and his book of the same name, was recently featured in the massively popular site Upworthy. Part of their appeal is the enticing titles they use to refurbish great videos/articles they find on the web. Here's what they wrote about my film: Thank you for joining me on this journey.
