Join me at 7pm EST tonight as we review the #ffconsistency in the NFL in Week 9. My special guest will be Jake Ciely of RotoExperts and the Fantasy League of Experts (FLEX) competition.
You could argue that the NFL is the one league that is closest to parity than others. However, after five weeks you still have six unbeaten teams. Four teams (Green Bay Packers, Atlanta Falcons, Denver Broncos, Cincinnati Bengals) are 5-0 while two teams (New England Patriots, Carolina Panthers) are 4-0. The lone winless team is the Detroit Lions (0-5).
The biggest news coming out of week five is that Jamaal Charles tore his ACL and is done for the season. The Chiefs have dropped four games in a row and are in last place. Could this put Andy Ried on the hot seat? The New York Giants have rolled off three wins in a row after blowing leads in their first two games. Are they the best 3-2 team in the league? The Seattle Seahwaks blew a 17 point fourth quarter lead. Is the Seahawks reign in the NFC done?
We welcome Jake Turner of the Jake Turner Show to chat NFL football and give his thoughts on these questions and more. Listen in and call the show with your thoughts.
The Chicago Cubs did not make the World Series, but they have been reeling in the MLB awards. Joe Maddon was named NL manager of the year. Mike Matheny finished second in the voting 37 points behind Maddon. Terry Collins, who led the New York Mets to the World Series, finished third. First year manager Jeff Bannister was named AL manager of the year. A.J. Hinch, who rejuvinated the Houston Astros franchise finised second. Minnesota Twins manager Paul Molitor rounded out the top three.
Unanimously, Kris Bryant won the NL rookie of the year award. Bryant became the 11th player in MLB history to win the award by unanimous decision. Matt Duffy of the San Francisco Giants finished second, while Pittsburgh Pirates Jung Ho Kang finished third. In a much closer race, Carlos Correa edged out Francisco Lindor for the AL rookie of the year.
The most interesting race was for the NL Cy Young award. Jake Arrieta edged out Zack Greinke by receiving 17 of the 30 first place votes. Greinke received 10 and Clayton Kershaw had three votes. Dallas Keuchel had a hold on the AL Cy Young most of the year and received 22 of the 30 first place votes. David Price finished second in the voting, 43 points behind Keuchel. No other AL pitcher received a first place vote.

Jeska was born and raised in Two Harbors, Minnesota. She grew up singing in the church and found the power of music at a young age. After high school, she pursued a cosmotology career but put her life on hold to raise her child. She is currently enjoying motherhood and the ability to pursue her music.
Jake and Jeska have only been performing a short while, but there is no doubting their musical chemistry and desire to inspire. They have an Americana style to their music with a soulful sound.
JAKE MATHEWS was born and raised in a northern Ontario town immortalized by Stompin’ Tom Connors for its wild Saturday nights. He couldn’t have known it then, but one of his early memories foretells his country music future.
“When I was 14, I traveled to Canada’s Wonderland in Toronto and entered this booth where you could record the song of your choice,” recalls the laid back Sudbury-born singer and songwriter. “I sang Randy Travis’ song "I Told You So" and after I recorded it, they played it over the loudspeaker while I hung around with my friends.”
Now calling Calgary home for the past 18 years, Jake has enjoyed great success at radio with numerous top 20 hits such as “If I Had It My Way”, “Beer Necessities”, “Kings For A Day”, “Time After Time”, “I’m Gone” as well as others - and has received several Canadian Country Music Award nominations.
Jake has had over 50 of his songs recorded by artists in Canada and the US. Most recent cuts include 2 songs on Gord Bamford’s current album Country Junkie and 1 song on Autumn Hill’s current album Favourite Mistake.
Following up his latest Top 20 hit “Beer Necessities" and the fan favourite "In Our Own Backyard", Jake just released “Road And The Radio” to country radio in Canada and iTunes.
Jake is currently finishing up his 4th studio album which is set to be released in the spring of 2015.
