A virtuoso on the alto, soprano, and tenor saxophones, as well as the unique EWI breath controller, Jaared is an internationally acclaimed recording artist. He is also an accomplished singer, who often brings the house down with his vocals.
Jaared entered the Washington, D.C., music scene at a very young age, rapidly gaining prominence for his work on the alto sax. As he continued as a full-time entertainer, he received more and more recognition for his music, and was soon known to audiences all over the world. Always wanting to keep things fresh, Jaared chose to expand his musical message with the soprano sax, EWI, and tenor sax, and now plays all three, while continuing with his main voice, the alto sax. His soaring soprano is one of the sweetest you will ever hear.
In 2002, Jaared was nominated as ‘Best New Artist of the Year’ by the National Smooth Jazz Association.
The beauty of his playing and his ability to connect with his audience, whether recorded or live, has gained him international acclaim. G.
Jaared has performed in Dubai, South Africa, West Africa, Poland, Germany, Austria, and other countries in Europe as well as all over the U.S. Jaared is loved in the United States and has a huge and dedicated fan base in Europe, where he regularly performs. His music is gaining national and international fans daily. Jaared is also a generous collaborator, and a favorite of the talented guitarist Peter White, who often asks Jaared to perform with him if Jaared’s schedule allows.
Jaared’s live shows are electric. He values the support of his fans, connecting with the audience in a way that few performers ever master. Listening to Jaared play, while seeing him live, is a fabulous entertainment experience. Jaared has assembled a band of top-notch musicians, but has also lent his talent to the shows of others such as Maysa, Peter White, Gregg Karukas, Dan Aykroyd, Freddie Jackson, and more.
Jaared is no stranger to "Hybrid Jazz" - or to any radio program that yours truly has hosted in the past several years. He was our first guest on THIS endeavor - in August of 2011 - and he's probably the artist with the most visits of ANY (okay, maybe Slim Man's in that company, too!).
This multiple talent is not only the consummate musician, but he is a friend. And it's wonderful to see him experience the fabulous changes that are happening in his already magical life. As you probably know, Jaared has had international success - to say that he has shared the stage with so-and-so doesn't even matter - the truth IS that anytime any artist has shared the stage with HIM - it makes THEM sound better! That's how good a saxophonist he is. And let's not even talk about the collective sighing that ensues when he SINGS!
Something you may not know about Jaared: when he was a child, his asthma was critical. A wise Doctor told the family that a wind instrument would help save his lungs. Jaared chose the the alto sax. You're seeing the silver lining here :) Through the years, Jaared also mastered the soprano and tenor saxes - and learned how to repair them, too.
NOW, life has taken him to a new fork in the road - he has been taking lessons from the great Billiard champ, Earl Strickland. Already extremely proficient at pool, Jaared is gearing up for championships and his excitement is palpable! Figuring into this new energy is a big MUSIC night coming soon in the shadow of his native Washington, D.C. Our man of the hour is going to play a gig with the wonderful Attila Molnar! And we'll get the details. We'll also hear some vintage music from Jaared. Expect to hear subjects, too - from chief inspiration, David Sanborn - to what lies ahead in 2014. The fun begins at ONE!
This may be the 7th or 8th time that Jaared and I have spoken via interview. We've known each other since WSMJ days in Baltimore - and Lord knows that we've had some conversations about music and the industry privately. When we let it all hang out, though? Watch OUT! LOL!
There are so many layers to this uber-talented artist that it's a pleasure to speak with him. He has opinions and will SHARE them with you, especially if you ask :) From the state of Jazz to politics to the value of loyalty, we've discussed what's important.
Some valuable points about Jaared's "layering" - his talent not only includes alto sax - but soprano and tenor. And EWI. And he can repair what HE plays and what YOU play. AND he can sing like nobody else! Recently, his friend here discovered that he is also an amazing pool player - and may have decided to go "on the road" because of his profound abilities. Yes, we're talking championships!
We'll also take a trip down Memory Lane - via past musical projects from our guest. It has been a while since Jaared's debut, "Foreward", came to our attention. And, brother - did it GET our attention! "Hangtime" and "Addiction" and "Manhattan Nights" - all such wonderful Jazz-infused journeys - your ears need the treat of hearing that glorious saxophone and that voice. And you'll get it.
Jaared might have something to say about the new releases that will get focus, too. There are several in the mix for Thursday, August 22nd, 2013. Both familiar and unfamiliar names - this is going to be exciting!
As will Jaared's visit - I can't remember a time when it hasn't been anything less than fascinating. And that's because HE is! Welcome back our good friend - he kicks off the show!
August 27 - Smooth Jazz Saxophonist - Jaared ArosemenaA virtuoso on the alto, soprano, and tenor saxophones, as well as the unique EWI breath controller, Jaared is an internationally acclaimed recording artist. He is also an accomplished singer, who often brings the house down with his vocals; and, he happens to be a homeboy. In 2002, Jaared was nominated as ‘Best New Artist of the Year’ by the National Smooth Jazz Association.
An amazing week - and we'll have an amazing show to give you!
Jaared, one of the most popular internationally known saxophonists that I know, will join us on Thursday, November 8th. Jaared is based in the Washington, DC, area , is working every day and still found the time this year to write empassioned posts about the state of the USA. He'll talk about his feelings regarding what America voted - and we'll hear the music that has made him so beloved. Including tracks from his extraordinarily popular, "Manhattan Nights!"
And you'll hear a LOT of great music! We'll actually make it a point to play favorites from Jaared...and we may hear from some other artists who have music that they'd like to share or dedicate because of this special week! Matter-of-fact, we encourage you to call with news of your gigs and CD releases. There wasn't a "First Tuesday" featured this month - so we'll make up for it! I promise that it's going to be a Love Fest. And you'll feel good about tuning in! Especially since we'll open up the phone lines!! We'll start off the show at 1 p.m. with your calls!
Jaared and surprises - Hybrid Jazz is back and on track to give you a November that you'll never forget. It looks as though that's ALREADY the case - this early in the month!
How did THIS happen?! Three of the most active "movers and shakers" in the Mid-Atlantic area will be on the next show!
Christian "Big New York" de Mesones is having a birthday celebration this Friday in Virginia - and he is bringing his friends to the event - to play! You can imagine the beautiful bass that you heard on Christian's CD by Groove Skool - called "Limited Edition" - mingled with the glorious keyboard and saxophone work from Elliot and Jaared, respectively. The mind reels at the possibilities!
This is the second time that Chris has joined us on the show - and it has been multiple times for our friend, Jaared. But this is the first time for Elliot to be on "Hybrid Jazz" - and this fearsome threesome will rock your world - with their music, news and plans.
All have shared with the stage with formidable artistry - and that artistry views what THEY have accomplished in the same way. Christian studied under brilliance - including Abe Laboriel, Pat Metheney and Stanley Clarke. Besides being a bandleader, he is also a music teacher. And those who teach play well with others :) Elliot has had multiple projects - and a new album (w/Urban Grooves) is doing wonderfully - and a continual touring schedule with Heatwave. One of the most respected keyboardists in this area or any other. Jaared has performed all over the world - either with those who knew the gift that they had (he plays ALL saxophones and EWI AND sings!) - or with his own band. His shows are always the highlight of any lineup and it's going to be a treat to see what he's got in store for us, regarding the future.
Music from all three Bad Cats before and after the interview - and our group meeting commences at two p.m. Eastern USA time. Make your reservations for The Chat Room early - lately, it has truly been Standing Room Only ;)
One of the most diverse, in demand sax players in all of contemporary jazz, JEFF KASHIWA finds pure joy at the heart of his increasingly fast-paced touring schedule by reminding himself, every time he gets on stage, that he’s there to do one thing: Play!
A virtuoso on the alto, soprano, and tenor saxophones, as well as the unique EWI breath controller, JAARED is an internationally acclaimed recording artist. We welcome them to Talking Smooth Jazz to talk about their projects, BACK IN THE DAY (JEFF) and MANAHATTAN NIGHTS (JAARED).
Jaared Arosemena is one of the most beloved musicians that we know. Some of that love must be attributed to his generous spirit - he has given his time and talent to a variety of performers. From Peter White to Freddie Jackson. From Maysa to Dan Ackroyd. And so many more.
Deeply romantic, soulfully satisfying, and touching in its tenderness, "Manhattan Nights" is Jaared at his exuberant best.
We're thrilled to welcome a major talent and our good friend to "Cool Jazz Conversations." We promise you - you'll feel the love. Just don't be asking How Deep Is it :))See More
Jaared was nominated the Best New Artist of the Year for 2002 by The National Smooth Jazz Association.
His playing is epitomized by a "from the Heart" style- he puts all of his feeling into his playing, and it shows. He has played with Peter White, Maysa, Rick Braun, Kim Waters, Jonathan Butler, and Richard Elliot. He also played on the Grammy-nominated "Maximum Grooves, Coast to Caost" CD, produced by Jason Miles.
Jaared travels all over the world, most recently to Capetown and London. His playing has brought him fans from Wales to South Africa.
Join us as we explore new territory regarding Jazz listening! We have certainly heard Traditional Jazz - and Contemporary. But we rarely have heard them together...and combined with everything that falls in between! If you like ALL of what Jazz is - and love the idea of new sounds, new interpretations of what is beloved and original material - you will enjoy this show. Plus, we'll always have a guest in the second hour who will add a refreshing take on what's happening in his, her, or their vision of Jazz. With this show, you'll always hear the artists who prioritize the genre of Jazz. Like our guest this week: Jaared! One of the premier saxophonists in the world, whose passion and strong talent have thrilled audiences for years. We are thrilled to present one of the most beguiling sax men in contemporary Jazz - from the Washington, D.C., area, as the first guest on our debut show!
It's more than likely that anyone reading this knows who the amazing saxophonist is that will join me on Thursday, November 10th. Jaared has been thrilling audiences for quite a while now, whether he is part of an assembly starring someone else (always making a good show better) or whether he's on the microphone, being brilliant as front man. Charismatic, powerful, passionate and sensitive, Jaared's sax becomes an instrument in more ways than one - for romance, for peace, for healing. In the states or across the pond, he is in demand because audiences know that they're hearing the real deal. A true artist and a great human being. We're happy to have him back on the show, and get the scoop on what he'll be doing as we wind down 2011 and make room for 2012! It probably won't be a situation like our regular interviews...Jaared intends to "hang" with me on the radio - so get set for the fun, starting at 2 p.m. Eastern time on the 10th! Jaared music from "Manhattan Nights" - with some inspirations from my friend as well - we'll have a blast and so will YOU!
