Radio continues to give a voice to thousands of children across the developing world
During 2015: Radio continues to be the most important tool to provide young people with information and give a voice to children across the developing world, many of whom live in remote or disaster-prone areas, says child rights organisation Plan International.
From early and forced marriage to child abuse, children across the world are using community radio and participatory radio initiatives to voice their opinion on a range of issues that affect their lives. They are also using the power of radio to advocate for their rights, support other young people and make themselves heard.
MAKING INQUIRY BASED INSTRUCTION WORK FOR TEACHERS AND STUDENTS
GREAT BOOKS FOUNDATION presents experts John Riley, Linda Barrett and Carolyn Lang on how encouraging inquiry works for today's standards, Common Core or otherwise. Let's enable discussion. It works
It's a blip on the radar in the grand scheme of things, but much fanfare greeted the recent "yes" vote in the Irish referendum on gay marriage. It was proclaimed an "historic watershed" and "marked a milestone in Ireland’s journey towards a more liberal, secular society". The vote was "almost like a social revolution that makes us a beacon of equality and liberty for the rest of the world" according to Irish health minister Leo Varadkar, who is gay. British tycoon Richard Branson was delighted to "see the people of Ireland voting to live in a country where everybody is treated equally."
Meanwhile, violent, sexual abusers of children are still protected by the Irish state. Irish schoolchildren are still taught lies about their own history, Irish politicians and bankers get away with massive theft of state resources that have impoverished thousands, while Irish police are ordered to beat Irish citizens who protest the privatization of Irish water on the orders of international financiers.
We'll also be discussing latest events around the world, mostly involving death, suffering and chaos.

Keba Cairo is an extraordinary mom, a generous giver, and a dedicated advocate for safety. She has spent over 10 years working to educate and inform communities across the tri-state area about various safety topics. Keba has practiced her passion for education, community outreach and marketing for some of New York City’s top agencies, including: NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH), and the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA).
After her son’s negative reaction to seeing news reports of the tragic shooting at Sandy Hook elementary school, Keba saw an education opportunity. Emphasizing the importance of her son’s voice, Keba encouraged him of “speaking out” against things that seemed suspicious or dangerous. Keba didn’t stop by teaching her own kids about safety, she then published a children’s book entitled: Don’t Snooze On Clues! (2014), which encourages ALL children to “speak out.” The book is a fun and easy way for educators and parents alike to start what can be considered a “difficult” conversation on safety.
Keba has shifted her career focus full-time to protecting the welfare of children across the country. She visits schools, camps, libraries, and after-school programs encouraging and teaching children the book’s theme (and New York City’s slogan) “If you see something, say something.”
Keba Cairo lives in the New York City area with her two amazing children and husband. A big part of Keba’s life is her service work, in addition to, regularly devoting her time to various organizations and charities, Keba continues to work diligently to promote violence prevention to children across the country. Sunil was first drawn to healing work when he was diagnosed with a serious illness as a young man. This personal journey offered him a deep awareness of how learning to correct the imbalances within us can irrevocably change our life. For 20 years Sunil passionately explored energy work, self inquiry and hypnosis and found that in a deeply relaxed state anyone can access the power of their unconscious mind and deeper self to make radical shifts quickly and permanently.
Raised in Essex, England and briefly in India, Sunil relocated to Portland, Oregon in 1995. In 2006 he became certified in Advanced Clinical Hypnotherapy and Neuro-linguistic Programming (NLP) from the Knightsbridge Institute in Portland Sunil is also educated and trained in Neuro Linguistic Programming. He received his NLP instruction from Master NLP Practitioner Beverly Martin of Hillsboro, OR . He has also studied extensively with world spiritual teacher and healer Eric Altman, founder of Living Peace International, located in Portland OR. And lastly he is the proud father of India Varma.Through deep listening, compassion, keen intuition and insight Sunil helps each person identify the limiting beliefs, negative patterns and self-sabotaging thoughts that keep them from stepping into their own power. Each session is tailored to the specific needs of the client and may include hypnotic suggestions, clearing dark or parasitic interference, positive imagery, NLP techniques ( parts integration work), energy work ( spiritual healing) and lastly age regression and coaching.Sunil is a evolved high level healer who is considered an expert in his field and offers his clients a one-of-a-kind holistic approach that is unique as it supports those he works with in reclaiming their inherent brilliance and achieving their fullest potential.
Today's show focuses on my recent experience as an audience member at an LGBT-themed musical. Although the subject matter was a turn-off for me, the production had value as a theatre piece and forced me to think about my own experience as a member of an audience who loves theatre but, as a Conservative, cannot accept the theatricality/spectacle of what I witnessed. Featured on today's show are the many responses to my Facebook inquiry about my experience. I would love to hear from more people about this, so please give me a call!
