Interstate 4 Transformation = Increased Taxes and More Gridlock

    in Politics

FACT.....I-4 Transformation is NOT about relieving gridlock and improving transportation.  It is all about political money for the special interest cronies, higher taxes and higher cost of living for working Americans

    I-4 Tolls Violate Florida Constitution
    I-77 Lawsuit
    Opposition to Toll Taxes Nationwide
    Modern Day Highwayman

    Alternative Funding for Transportation

Alternative sources of funding – if needed.  The following sources of highway revenues would have no new collection costs associated with them and do not limit access to the most efficient highways.

Increase gas tax.  Compare the increased revenues of a 2¢ per gallon vs. 2¢ toll tax.
Annual Motor Vehicle Registration Fee/Tax.  A once a year flat “highway tax” of $5.00 for every registered vehicle.  Calculate the net increase in highway revenues for a onetime annual fee/tax.
Tourist tax allocation.  Tourism has a major impact on traffic and vice-versa.  Allocate a portion (5%) of the tourism tax revenues to the highway fund.  This also promotes tourism by making travel easier and less expensive for the tourist.
Rental car tax allocation.  Rental cars have a major impact on traffic.  Allocate a portion (5%) of the taxes assessed to rental cars to the highway fund.
A Portion of state/local sales tax should be allocated to transportation.  The state/local economy drives sales tax revenues.  Transportation of people and goods & services has a significant impact on local sales activity.  Thus, an impact on sales tax revenues.

State Sovereignty: When is Interstate Commerce Not Interstate Commerce?

    in Politics Conservative

Tonight, we talk with Pete Kennedy from the Farm-to-Consumer Legal Defense Fund. How is it that Washington thinks it's a legitimate power in regulating your purchase directly from an in-state farm? Who tells the federal government that they have regulatory power over direct farmer to consumer transactions? Who is looking out for you when it comes to consumer choice in food? Pete works with an organization that is directly involved in fighting the feds on these issues. Join us tonight to find out what you can do to help, what they are doing to help you, and how Missouri people, through their legislatures, hope to stand up to the feds in food choice, healthy eating, and freedom of in-state commerce.

Then, Doug Enyart joins us again to discuss his campaign in MO8.

How God Helped Interstate Battery CEO Norm Miller Overcome Alcoholism

    in Business

He is the chairman of Interstate Battery. From humble beginnings as a salesman, he worked his way up through the departmental ranks of the company to become CEO. He expanded the company's dealerships to over 200,000 across America and helped build up a brand name and reputation that is known for excellence and honesty.

As a young child growing up in Galveston, Texas, he often watched his father drink heavily on many evenings after work. Consequently, when he entered junior high, he began drinking as well. His drinking and partying continued all the way through high school and college. After college, he got a job with Interstate which kept him on the road a lot, and many days after working on cars and trucks, he would drink until the bar closed in the wee hours of the morning.

However, on one occasion, he was driving home after a night of drinking and got pulled over by the police. He says in his testimony: "I already had been convicted of two DUIs, but somehow I talked my way out of getting arrested. When I woke up the next morning all hung over, I called in sick to work. Then as I lay there in bed, the truth overwhelmed me. I was an alcoholic just like my father. I’d lost control of my life. That was a frightening realization! At the very instant I realized I had become an alcoholic, I blurted out in a half-yell of desperation, 'God, help me! I can’t handle it!' I’ll never forget those words, because He took the compulsion to drink away completely. It was over right then. I realize it doesn’t happen that way for everyone, but it did for me, and I’m eternally thankful. The weird thing is that if you’d asked me the day before if I believed in God, I would have told you that I didn’t know -- that I hadn’t given much thought to it."

Keeping Work Zones Moving with Traffic Incident Management

    in Social Networking

Work zones pose challenges for drivers.  When drivers come to a work zone they need to understand the messages that they are receiving from signs, roadway devices, and other visual cues that create the need for them to change their driving behavior.  In today’s distracted environment, physical changes to the roadway such as reduced lane width, abrupt lane shifts and short interstate ramps can complicate driving.

Work zones pose challenges for emergency responders.  Often work zones create confined spaces for emergency responders to do their own work in.  In some cases, crews have to respond in the opposite direction of travel, they have to gain access to work areas, and they have to be sure to pre-stage equipment.  Coordinating with construction crews is a secret to success and the Iowa Department of Transportation has tapped into this secret.

In this episode of TIM Network Podcasts, John Wilson with the Iowa Department of Transportation will talk about their Traffic Critical Projects Program.

    in Hip Hop Music

Yesterday I was driving along Interstate 285 and I saw a young lady walking with her child down the expressway. She was walkin on the shoulder near the fast lane. That of course was disturbing enough. However, something happened that was the very opposite of disturbing. In fact, it was rather inspiring. What I saw made me very proud of my brothers and sisters. I saw a number of people working together to get the young lady and her child to safety.
