Lupita Nyong’o: Long on Talent, Short on Ego

    in Entertainment

For a Hollywood ingenue who cemented her place in screen history at age 30, Lupita Nyong’o is nothing if not humble. In 2013, her role in director Steve McQueen’s 12 Years a Slave earned her the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress, marking not one but three firsts: The first Kenyan actress to win an Oscar, the first African to win in that category, and the first Mexican citizen to do so. Now she’s off in London shooting one of the most hotly anticipated films of all time: Star Wars Episode VII. “I don’t know that I’m prepared for it,” she tells us of being picked for the JJ Abrams project. “I’m just taking it day by day and counting my blessings—and hopefully I’ll make it through with my soul intact.”

    EMPTY ROOMS - Rebroadcast

    in Entertainment

"Empty Rooms", a radio edition of a brand new parody just in time for Halloween! A cursed script, a has-been Diva, a scheming ingenue, and a power-hungry producer... Heads will roll... It's Sunset Blvd., Rocky Horror Picture Show, and Bullets Over Broadway all rolled up into one show. Starring: Lewis Blanchard Priscilla De Loera Hill Albert Garnica Gabriel Green Daniel Prinkey Chiara Russi. Written by Obed Medina.
2012: This was our very first attempt at making our own recording... the quality, well, it's not the best, but we were aiming for a good show... After all, it can always be improved upon if we so desire... but the experience, as frustrating as it was, was a whole lot of fun.

    Music Challenge: Bria Valente

    in Music

When I found out in March of this year that Prince was releasing a new three CD set I was completely stoked. I have been listening to his music since I was 10 years old and I love his new work as much as I love his old stuff. When I purchased Lotusflow3r and opened it I was surprised to find that one of the three CD's belonged to an unknown Prince ingenue, Bria Valente. Although I have played the heck out of Lotusflow3r and MPLSOUND I have NEVER listened to Bria's CD. So tonight, for the first time, we will listen together. I ask that you listen and put your comments about what you think of Bria and her singing...I'm sure the songs were all written by Prince...just call it a hunch (LOL!) I will try my best to forget the Prince connection and judge her on her own merits. She is certainly beautiful and has a great body I'd kill for...but looks and talent are not mutually exlusive. So shall we hold hands and dive into the music pool together? Let's go!
