Indie Books Show #55 (Tony Perez-Giese)

    in Books

Tune in and help me welcome this week's guest.
Author Tony Perez-Giese joins me on the Indie Books Show this week to talk about his novel: Pac Heights
It is 1999 in San Francisco. The dot.com boom is in full swing, and it seems as though every twenty-something has become an instant millionaire-except our narrator, who has just arrived from the Midwest without a job. Confronted with the chilling prospect of missing out on the greatest cash grab of the twentieth century, he enlists with a temp agency. That's when things start getting strange. Mistaken by the agency for an urbane homosexual instead of the ex-frat boy he really is, he is assigned to a fully-staffed mansion in the Pacific Heights neighborhood. His new boss? Definitely not the old matron he was expecting. Bailey Phelan is the gorgeous, thirty-year-old wife of an aging billionaire, and her penchant for Prada, recreational drugs, and foreign boyfriends quickly has the narrator running in circles trying to keep her exorbitant spending and romantic misadventures under wraps. But despite all the glitz, what she might need most is a friend. As the narrator gets sucked deeper into the mansion milieu-oversexed nannies, a lovelorn gay chef, the obsessive head housekeeper, the bilious billionaire himself-he's faced with the unavoidable question: will the six-figure salary and over-the-top lifestyle of the rich and infamous corrupt him - or will he cut and run with his soul intact?

Interview with Indie-Rock Band The Fantasy Echoes

    in Indie Music

Even though they haven't had their debut release yet, you can already tell that the indie-rock group The Fantasy Echoes is too damn fun. From the first notes of their demo "Battle Cry", you're already tapping your toes, bobbing your head, and wanting to sing along with lead singer Austin and the rockin' vocals emanating from his throat.

This week Steven Rouk talks with guitarist and song-writer Ryan to hear the stories behind the infectious tunes and to get the scoop on what the band's plans are for the future.

  • Indie Books Show #66 (Mary Barr)

    in Books

Tune in and join me as I welcome this week's guest.
Author Mary Barr joins me this week to talk about her books.  We'll discuss her novellas, novels & juvenile fiction titles.
    From her novella The Publisher:
Each day with trust and good faith we send our beloved children off to school. We assume they arrive safely, enjoy time with their friends and learn their lessons. We think we know where they are and who they’re with. But life can change in a heartbeat, so can circumstances, places and people and, as a result we never remain the same. Change is often good, sometimes bad, but always constant. The Publisher takes you into the lives of the Smelt family. Joe, Suzanne and their two children, six year old Libby and thirteen year old Connor.
It is a normal school day just like any other, until Joe – the publisher – begins reading a manuscripts. In the manuscript he learns that his children are not at school. They have been kidnapped and are being held hostage until the ransom is paid. Each detail of what he must do is precisely laid out as another page of the manuscript unfolds. Suzanne has done someone wrong and, if she can right the situation her children will go free, if not, they will die. And so, they sit and wait for the knock on the door and the next installment of the manuscript that holds within its pages their children’s fate.

Indie Books Show #65 (Gary Reilly)

    in Books

Tune in and join me as I welcome this week's guests.
This week, I'll be doing my first posthumous interview.  No, I won't be speaking to the author from the other side (that's another blogtalk radio category).  I will be interviewing two gentlemen who knew Gary Reilly very well in life and were given the approval to seek publication for his books after his death.
When he was alive, Gary Reilly devoted his life to perfecting his writing - not seeking agent or publishers. He posthumously gave his books into the hands of Mike Keefe, a retired political cartoonist and Pulitzer Prize winner, and Mark Stevens, a former journalist and acclaimed author in Colorado, for publishing.
Of the first five titles – “The Asphalt Warrior,” “Ticket to Hollywood,” “The Heart of Darkness Club,” “Home for the Holidays” and “Doctor Lovebeads” – two hit No. 1 on the Denver area bestsellers list and two have been nominated for the Colorado Book Award.
Tune in Friday at11AM EST or listen to the archive.
