Recently I was asked to teach meditation to a group of underprivileged middle school kids in El Paso, Texas who are in the chess club.
The chess club team was going to the Texas State chess championship and they were intimidated by other chess teams. I taught them mindful meditation which helped them separate a given experience from an associated emotion which helped them to focus their awareness on the present moment.
Listen in to the techniques that can help to curb kids' impulsivity, reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety. The chess club ended up winning state and are headed to nationals!

Sex addicts and partners of sex addicts can have mental illnesses that complicate diagnosis and recovery. One of these mental illnesses is borderline personality disorder, or BPD. BPD is commonly associated with sex addiction and makes sex addiction much more difficult to diagnose and treat because the criteria for both diagnoses overlap. BPD is considered a severe personality disorder often caused by cumulative trauma experienced in early and middle childhood. Carol the Coach will interview Geoff Goodman who not only is a CSAT but a proffessor of psychology. He will be explaining some of the symptoms of BPD which include frantic attempts to avoid abandonment, chronic feelings of emptiness, and impulsivity, which can include self-injurious behaviors and sexual promiscuity. It is important that mental health professionals screen for BPD when they assess sex addicts and partners of sex addicts. BPD is extremely challenging to treat in psychotherapy because patients diagnosed with BPD often attempt to push away their therapists with hostile behaviors. Fortunately, there are several evidence-based treatment models for BPD that, when combined with a 12-step program for sex addiction or codependency, can help the patient to find a successful path of recovery.

Life's Issues with Lloyd Rosen with Special Guest Craig Wiener
It is now possible for concerned parents to treat their child’s attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) without medication. This book shows them how. Written by a supervising psychologist who specializes in child behavioral issues, Parenting Your Child with ADHD presents a groundbreaking program for parents seeking to reduce their child’s inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity and strengthen his or her capacity for self-reliance and cooperation. This unique program promotes positive ways of interrelating and shows parents the five main ways they may have unwittingly reinforced ADHD symptomsin the past. Far from encouraging parents to strictly manage ADHD children, this approach promotes independence in kids so that less discipline and surveillance is necessary. Specifically, this book helps parents promote cooperation by phrasing their requests in specific ways, reduce pressure on their child, and acknowledge the child’s preference as a way to make cooperation a more attractive choice to him or her. Parents learn to resolve problems related to messiness, inappropriate silliness and intrusiveness, chores and helping family members, coordinating schedules, sneaking and stealing, noise and yelling, and overreacting. The second part of the book moves on to issues that take place outside the home, such as shopping excursions, family outings, and travel.

Have you ever stopped and noticed yourself being amazing?
As women balancing multiple obligations and commitments in both business and life, we all have those parenting moments when things are just working and we’re proud of how we’re doing.
And then there are those other moments. Those moments when things just aren’t working. Our frustration yields impatience or impulsivity and our ability to operate from our deepest parenting values disintegrates. In those moments, the background conversation is usually something disempowering and negative.
My guest Rachel Sklar will provide tips and advice as to how to rock your inner mama.
