We all know that laughter is the best medicine. Since the 2 Annual Asbury Park Comedy Festival is coming to town on August 24, this is a good time to talk about why laughter and comedy are essential to our personal well-being. Poet Robert Frost said, “If we couldn't laugh, we would all go insane.” It’s never too late to start seeing the lighter side of life. Having a good sense of humor is an essential social skill. A well executed joke can get you out of a tight spot or help you get away with things that others would not be able to get away with. Humor is often the gateway to friendship and a trait we typically desire in a partner. A sense of humor can be a lifesaver in a relationship. The ability to laugh at one’s self and at life’s challenges allows a person to maintain a proper perspective when dealing with sensitive issues within a relationship. Couples who are playful and teasing can defuse potentially volatile situations with their humor. Sharing the pleasure of humor creates a sense of intimacy and connection between two people, qualities that define solid, successful relationships. But what makes us laugh? For some it's sitcoms like Seinfeld, or classic I Love Lucy. Or maybe you like controversial humor from comedians like Richard Pryor or George Carlin. Ever laugh out loud while reading a book? The only book that ever did that for me was Joseph Heller’s Catch 22. Humor is, of course, subjective, but most of us have something that tickles our funny bone and makes us dissolve into uncontrollable laughter. Join Life Coach Jenn A. Nocera and me for a humorous look at comedy. After the show, please check out After Hours at Jersey Coastal Live for additional information.
On tonight's show, Mike will be making his triumphant return to corral the usual gang of horrendous misfits, social outcasts, terrible humans, bottom-dwellers, near-rapists, burglars, lawyers, insurance salesmen, and fatty, one-eyed ogres (and that's just Lew!) into the thin guise of a coherent, 45-minute program. Tonight we will be reconnecting with each other, since Mike seems to be the only glue-like substance keeping these dimwitted, barbarian bootlicks from chewing their own faces off. We'll also have our lovely Mick Ciallella performing another one of his world-famous Creep Corner segments, where he tells us how creepy and pathetic he is and we deride him and try to convince him to commit suicide. Kristy will regale us with an utterly unsurprising tale of her foray into some sort of redneck ho-down, where she, also unsurprisingly, consumed barely-filtered corn whiskey. Lew, as per usual, will grunt and fart along with the dialogue in a vague attempt at paying attention and/or interacting. Join us!
Soon2BeCatLady and A_Dude79 will bicker about easy things that can be done to set yourself apart from the rest of the single world. If you haven't noticed, in our society of instant gratification, it's getting more difficult to find people willing to take the relationship leap. For those of you that listen who are in relationships - help us single people out with your tricks of the trade.
As always, join in the discussion by calling in, or reaching out via Twitter - @Soon2BeCatLady and @A_Dude79
