Eddie Huang, co-host Elena Bergeron, and special guest Miss Info discuss one of NYC’s landmark hip-hop albums, Nas’ debut “Illmatic,” on the twentieth anniversary of its release.
Miss Info—real name Minya Oh--is currently best known for her gossip spots on hip-hop radio powerhouse Hot 97, but she claims a special place in Nas’ career: Oh wrote the original “five-mic” review of “Illmatic" in “The Source.”

We will be discussing the recent FCC filing of a Petition to Deny the renewal of WQHT Hot 97's license to broadcast by New York hip hop journalist and advocate Manny Faces.
Manny says, "Often, such opposition revolves around content (i.e., is modern rap music indecent, suitable for children, perpetuating negative stereotypes, etc), however my petition pursues a different line of reasoning, stating that the station, because of its use of the term "hip hop," is attempting to redefine "hip hop" as a genre, rather than the more accepted definition, that of a culture. While Hot 97 plays much hip hop -- the music -- it does not serve the interest of hip hop -- the culture, or hip hop -- the community, particularly within their broadcast radius."
We will be discussing this stunning development, and taking calls on the topic.
The NY Hip Hop Report, New York hip hop's #1 talk radio show, is proud to welcome Devastating Tito form the pioneering rap group the Fearless Four to the show.
We always look forward to speaking to our hip hop veterans, especially those who have continued to work in hip hop music and culture their entire life. We'll be asking Tito about his early days with the Fearless Four of course, but also about Team Fearless and the yearly Team Fearless Hip Hop Honors, to find out how Tito has keep the original spirit and ideals of hip hop music and culture alive and well in these ever-changing times.
In addition, we'll be giving an update to the filed FCC petition against Hot 97. You'll remember that even before Chuck D was publicly speaking out against Hot 97 recently, our Manny Faces had already begun a potentially devastating (no pun intended) action against Hot 97 and their corporate parent, Emmis Communications, filing paperwork with the FCC that could threaten the station's right to broadcast.
We'll be giving an update to the update that was recently posted on BirthplaceMag.com.
OF course, we'll always have discussion about other current events in the NY hip hop landscape, event reviews and previews, a breakdown of some notable new releases, and YOUR CALLS!

As always, big news in hip hop happens in NY, and can have effects on the industry overall. The big story this week is that Hot 97 Program Director and morning show co-host Ebro Darden will no longer hold the PD spot. We'll discuss how this will affect the New York hip hop radio landscape, if at all.
We'll also be talking about the momentous #RiseTogether concert event coming up on March 22, as several different factions of independent New York hip hop, with decades of experience between them, will all come together for one concert event at Littlefield in Brooklyn. We'll hear from Silent Knight, who, along with The Band Called FUSE helped to orchestrate this fine example of the diversity and willingness to rise together of the NY hip hop scene.
We'll also recap a couple of great events we attended this week, including the BK Nation show and the Legends of Hip Hop show at Resorts World Casino!
As always, we'll report and discuss some new releases, and take YOUR CALLS LIVE!
The NY Hip Hop Report is a weekly talk show, featuring discussion regarding relevant New York hip hop topics, interviews with artists and other industry professionals and invites live caller participation. The program, started in 2012 by Birthplace Magazine founder Manny Faces, has included interviews with iconic figures such as Big Daddy Kane and Video Music Box’s Ralph McDaniels, as well as special shows, including an April, 2013 broadcast live from the 10th annual L’Original Festival, a yearly international hip hop festival in Lyon, France.
