GallantFew's The New American Veteran Radio Show
There is a dead sound spot at the beginning - lost the internet! Hang in there, Karl will be right back with Keni Thomas' "Send Me".
GallantFew, Inc is a 501(c)3 nonprofit dedicated to reducing Veteran unemployment, homelessness and suicide.
Today's scheduled guest is Rob Kulessa, a veteran with service in the venerable 3/187 "Rakkasans", 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault). Rob has always held veterans issues close to his heart. He gained entry into the 2013 Ironman Lake Placid race and decided to a "Your Journey, Your Cause" to support GallantFew.
For those unaware, the Ironman is a 2.4 mile swim followed by a 112 mile bike and ended with with a 26.2 mile marathon run for a total of 140.6 miles. This must be completed in under 17 hours for the athlete to earn the title "Ironman".
Rob probably doesn't want me adding this, but I am anyway. Rob lost his entire home in Hurricane Sandy yet still has put his effort into supporting other veterans - even over his own needs.
Rob has some really awesome plans to include some Rangers and awesome physical conditioning training into his final preparations for the Ironman - learn about this, see if you can also get involved.
Rob's company is the RWK Agency, specializing in employee benefits.

Taxing the Churches and Helping the Homeless
ATHEISTS HELPING THE HOMELESS, WITH JOE ZAMECKI (about 15 minutes into the show).
Joe Zamecki joins us from Austin to give us an update on the Atheists Helping the Homeless (AHH) program. Back in September 2009, Joe and two of his colleagues started a giveaway program for the homeless in Austin, Texas. Atheists Helping the Homeless has now grown to include regular giveways in Austin, Dallas-Ft. Worth … and maybe more.
IS IT TIME TO TAX THE CHURCHES? OR RETHINK PARSONAGE EXEMPTIONS? Insight from Robert Baty, Retired IRS Appeals Officer (About 30 Minutes Into the Show)
A retired IRS Appeals Officer, Robert received a special citation from the Office of Area Director Appeals, for his “commitment to excellence, devotion to duty, and hard work which so significantly contributed to Appeals Area 7 being recognized as the most Outstanding Area in the Nation.”
Cited in Forbes, Baty is a Christian activist who supports the effort to repeal Internal Revenue Code § 107, as presently codified and administered, that allows only "ministers" to receive income tax free income as long as it is spent on housing, Baty argues against young earth “creation science,” demonstrating why it fails in its scientific pretentions and legal challenges. He’s been particularly interested in creationist Kent and Jo Hovinand’s tax cases.

Today's scheduled guest is Kjell Anderson. Kjell founded Crazy Ranger.
Crazy Ranger is run by a 5-time Combat Vet from the 2nd Ranger Battalion and the wife who puts up with all of his crap. They approach common sense preparedness (no doomsday, no tinfoil hats) by regularly purchasing modest amounts of common, inexpensive items that are uniquely helpful when things become difficult. They don't believe in wonder gadgets- just basic common sense, some creativity, and a whole lot of stick-to-it-iveness. Rangers Lead the Way!!!

The Homeless Entrepreneur: Jason Mercado, CEO of JUSTCOOKIES
What's Your Recipe for Success? "When people taste Jason Mercado's cookies, they often say the budding entrepreneur should have started selling them a long time ago.
That sentiment is not lost on Mercado, a Salem, N.J. native who baked his first batch of Toll House when he was 11 and never stopped cooking for his family. Before food blogs and Epicurious there was only The Food Network, and in the mid-to-late 1990s, Mercado watched all the time, learning as much as his mother's kitchen would allow. But something happened on the way to cookie paradise. Mercado eschewed culinary school – he got stuck on the more complex math – and followed some friends to Austin, TX, spending 17 years working the restaurant circuit and the party scene, developing a self-described functional drug addiction that saw him spend time in jail and drain his modest finances. It wasn't until Mercado returned north to Philadelphia, where he was laid off from Starbucks, that he was homeless, and at long last, an entrepreneur. Mercado's circuitous path to Philadelphia and business ownership isn't a tale of entrepreneurship's power to overcome homelessness, as tempting as that might be. Rather, it's a testament to Mercado's fortitude and Philadelphia's entrepreneurial ecosystem, which he took advantage of at every opportunity to lift himself up the ladder of redemption. Now Jason is dedicated to teaching other homeless individuals baking skills that can translate into real jobs and real opportunities. You can be a part of Jason's success by ordering cookies from Just Cookies or joining any one of his campaigns to help him raise money for business and marketing expenses.
