Lori Stanley Roeleveld is a disturber of hobbits who enjoys making comfortable Christians late for dinner. She’s authored an unsettling blog since 2009; a pursuit that eventually resulted in her first book, Running from a Crazy Man (and other adventures traveling with Jesus). Lori’s blog has a modest but faithful daily readership and yet, in 2014, one post was viewed over 1.2 million times and another was shared over 275,000 times on Facebook. Lori has published newspaper and magazine articles, poetry, and plays. Her novels, short stories, and Bible studies have won several awards. Besides degrees in Psychology and Biblical Studies, Lori earned her Masters in Motherhood homeschooling her two children through graduation. Now, she draws energy from helping writers find their voice and see God’s vision for their work. In her day job, Lori writes the stories of real families in crisis so others see their strengths and values, not just their problems. You’ll find Lori at her website www.loriroeleveld.com or on her front porch writing. If not, know she’s somewhere slaying dragons.
Meet author Chis Smith. He'll be joining me on the show Saturday, Jan. 31 to discuss his book series, Angels Without Wings.
About the books:
For God, we fight; all angels have heard the command. Troy Decker has heard it from his parents countless times. All he wants in life is a chance to prove himself and be granted his scepter - the first gift angels receive from God in their war against Lucifer. Standing in his way is fallen angel Kyle Downey, who is on a quest to destroy the world. As the War for Sins rises to heights not seen in generations, Troy must find the strength to hold his faith when demons target his friends and family.
About the author:
Chris Smith ignited his love of stories on his sixteenth birthday when his parents gave him a leather bound copy of the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Every year since, he has picked up the book and fallen into the world of hobbits, wizards, warriors, and orcs. To him, it’s a birthday present that will continue to be given each and every year for the rest of his life. He began writing at the age of nineteen as a way to purge his mind of cascading plots and reveal the untold stories of characters who follow him around in his day-to-day life. To date, he has written fifteen novels falling mostly into the young adult, fantasy genre; but he has delved into suspense, crime drama, and post-apocalyptic categories as well.
The Write Stuff is proud to be a media sponsor of the Bay Area Family Literacy Day taking place on November 1st. Family literacy is a critical component to getting your children to read & enjoy reading. Further, your children will discover the vastness of their creativity. Imagine one day you're at home when a large, terrifying tornado comes out of nowhere, whips up your house and your dog, and lands you in a world full of yellow brick roads, munchkins, a cowardly lion, and a tin man without a heart.
What if you found a golden ring with power that could turn you into a dark lord or queen? It mesmerized you, called to you, and haunted you until it consumed your mind. You'd fight hobbits, and creatures of both dark and light, travel mountains, and align yourself with wizards of extraordinary power.
You may recognize the two worlds mentioned but what they have in common is that these tales take us to realms far away from what we know. We are immersed into lands of magic, and mystery. In fact, one of the best things about being a writer is that you can create the world you want. Is it filled with dragons and sorcerers? Do dogs rule the Kingdom? Do the fish and crabs dance under the sea while they save a mermaid from an evil witch with the body of an octopus? Are you the chosen one, given the ability to change the course of two worlds? Can you command a ship with a crew as you head into the unexplored regions of space? Will you step through a gate that takes you to another world as easily as going from one room to the next?
Are you are Realm Explorer?
Join me as we talk with author and teacher Annie Lima Douglass as she takes into the imaginations of authors and the realms they create to fill us with wonder. You can join in at 646-595-2083, press 1 to be live on air. Or, you can download the WLUV Radio mobile app. Any way you can, join us.
SUSAN B. MARTINEZ, Ph.D.,
Did we evolve from apes, or are we all descendants of Adam and Eve? Why is the “missing link” still missing? Is the dumb luck of natural selection valid? Piecing together the protohistory of humanity through anthropology, genetics, paleolinguistics, and indigenous traditions, Susan B. Martinez offers an entirely original alternative to Darwin’s evolution: Modern humanity did not evolve but is a mosaic of mixed ancestry, the result of eons of cross-breeding and retro-breeding among different groups, including Cro-Magnon, Neanderthal, hobbits, giants, and Africa’s “Lucy” and “Zinj.” Martinez shows that there were multiple “Gardens of Eden” and how each continent had its own blend of races prior to the Great Flood, which caused the diaspora that brought a renaissance of culture to every division of the Earth. Martinez explains Homo sapiens’ mental powers (the Great Leap Forward) in cosmological terms--how we are the product of both heaven and earth. She identifies the “Sons of Heaven” and the angel-engendered races, explaining how Homo sapiens acquired the “blood of the gods,” which endowed us with a soul. Providing the ultimate resolution to the Evolution versus Creationism debate, this landmark study of hybrid man justifies his unexpectedly sudden appearance in the fossil record, the curious parallels between oral histories of the world’s people, and why anatomically modern features are found in the earliest paleontological evidence.
SUSAN B. MARTINEZ, Ph.D., earned her doctorate in anthropology at Columbia University, where she also served as a lecturer in ethnolinguistics. She is the book review editor at the Academy of Spiritual and Consciousness Studies and the author of _The Psychic Life of Abraham Lincoln_,She lives in Clayton, Georgia.
