The Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC) released a new research report that looks at how Canada’s entrepreneurs can stay at the top of their game by mastering five fundamentals of business success and steering clear of five common pitfalls.
The report identifies factors that are key predictors of business success. In fact, they appear to be common to many of Canada’s “most successful” business leaders, defined as the top 20% of businesses based on recent financial performance and employment growth, regardless of the industry in which they operate. The other 80% of Canadian entrepreneurs surveyed were classified as “all others.”
“A common thread here is that it’s all about the power of strong relationships,” said Pierre Cléroux, BDC Chief Economist. “Whether it is about the importance of seeking outside advice, hiring and maintaining good employees, or building a solid rapport with your suppliers, never underestimate the value of relationships.”

Take some time this week to remember your original happy hour: Saturday mornings as a kid, waking up at dawn, jumping on the couch with a bowl of chocolate cereal, turning on the ‘toons, tuning out the outside world, and working your way into a sugar hangover before noon. Join us this week for our Open Your Toys Edition, co-hosted by our good friend Slick McFavorite of the popular Open Your Toys podcast. He helps Grim and Mark celebrate all those toys we played with as kids and all those toys that we don't dare play with now, from action figures to staction figures to full on statues in lucite cases. We also chat with Susan Fairchild of Sideshow Collectibles, Pierre Kalenzaga of Mezco Toyz, and Craig Dobris of Ban Dai, plus Mark (very carefully) unboxes his new exclusive Premium Format Michael Keaton Batman from Sideshow, and Grim reviews his latest Venture Bros toy (which strangely enough is a set of bedsheets and you can get your own right here) ahead of the new Venture Bros special All This and Gargantua-2 (on Adult Swim at midnight this Monday Jan 19th), while Slick learns the true meaning of Christmas.
**Contains some salty language and three juvenile jokes about "adult toys".
Host Cyrus Webb welcomes writer/director Yvonne Pierre to Conversations LIVE to discuss this year's RISE Awards which will honor and celebrate the accomplishments of advocates with Down Syndrome.

Rev. Sandra Daly is a woman who, after thirty years of abuse, gave herself a gift. That gift was a thought, and that thought was this, “There’s got to be a better way for me to live.”
In her willingness to believe this thought when it popped into her mind, she found the key that would unlock the door that stood between her and the life she had never before dared to imagine could be possible.
The opening of that door led Rev. Daly to what is known as the "New Thought Movement," and she has been studying and practicing those teachings for more than a dozen years now.
Sandra Daly now uses her own experience to help others understand just how "a new thought" really does "create a new thing."
Join host Danielle Pierre and her guest Sandra Daly as Sandra shares her amazing story of growth and personal transformation!
