I did a radio show and blog article some months ago on this topic – however this radio show is a deeper look at how we can change our emotional set-point in order to change what is happening with our children. If you are struggling with fear, pain and anguish as a result of what is happening wit

It has been over a year since our nation was challenged to answer a question, posed at a vigil after one of the darkest days in recent memory. In a quiet Connecticut town, 26 innocent, most of them young children, had just been killed at school where they should have bee the safest. So the president asked, "Can we honestly say that we are doing enough to keep our children--all of them---safe from harm?
Whatever one's stance is on guns or access to mental health services or police protection at schools, most Americans can agree: We are not keeping all our children safe from harm and not doing nearly enough to protect those who most need our protection.
Even putting aside every policy question raised in the wake of Newtown, that fact haunts our public life. In Texas recently, many of us have shuddered at reports of children mistreated during their time in foster care. News reports about unsafe day care centers, where we couldn't imagine sending our own kids, have brought collective indignation. So have accounts of a Central Texas high school student put in a coma after a school police officer used a stun gun on him.
Do we do enough to keep these children out of danger? Not yet we don't. Let's talk about it.

Local community programs are struglling to provide a safe and loving place for our children to grow into healthy, productive adults. We desperately need to support these programs. You know the saying "It takes a village to raise a child". What's happened to our villages? What will happen to our children? It takes more than one person to teach a child the ways of life. A child comes upon many different experiences and circumstances during their life and they need a village to love, nurture and teach them.
