"Demanding Justice and Dignity for OUR Children"
    Our Guest: Zakiya Sankara-Jabar
    Executive Director, Co-Founder, Co-Chair
    Dignity in Schools Campaign
    Racial Justice NOW !

A South Carolina Black female student was brutally attacked, thrown from her seat and tossed across the room by a school police officer even though she had obeyed orders to put her cellphone away. Police intervention was employed when her teacher did not think that she put it away fast enough, Horrified students watched and video taped the incident. Where are Black children safe? How can this girl's humanity be so blantantly challenged?

Roxane Gay (NYT)  writes: "Far too little attention is being given to who the young girl is...When that officer saw her, sitting quietly, defiantly, she was not allowed to be human. She was not allowed to have a complex story. She was held to a standard of absolute obedience. She was not given the opportunity to explain the why of her defiance because she was a black body that needed to be disciplined by any means necessary."

“Is Technology Helping Or Hurting How Our Children Communicate?”

    in Family

A generation ago we didn’t have cell phones, computers, and social media apps to interact with each other.  So, with all of this new technology, has the youth of today lost its “personal touch”? Are children growing up today with less social skills, less ability to “hold their own” when it comes to interviewing for a job or developing a true friendship?  All of these questions will be looked at as psychotherapist Tom Stevens dives into the dilemma of technology and its impact on the social skillsof today’s youth.  Featured guest Nicole Dayton will share her expertise and insight, as a middle and high school speech teacher, and point out what the current generation needs to be effective communicators and successful professionals in this technological age.  This is your chance to ask questions about your children or where society is going with regard to communication and relationships in a social media filled world.  You don’t want to miss this informative and entertaining show!  You can call (347)838-9737 to listen LIVE, make a comment, or ask your question.  You can also listen online at www.blogtalkradio.com/tomstevenlpc

Help Wanted - Adoptive Parents for children in Foster Care

    in Health

Diane Tomaz of the Massachusetts Adoption Resources Exchange (MARE) talks about adoption and the needs of the children waiting in foster care.

Many of these children have special needs.  Addy is a good example.

Addy is a 4-year-old Caucasian girl who continues to make tremendous progress in her growth and development. Addy has some developmental delays and a genetic condition called Micro-duplication syndrome, which can present as having Autism like symptoms and behavioral challenges. She will need to be formally re-evaluated in the future to determine if she still falls on the Autism spectrum due to the tremendous progress she has made.

Addy attends pre-school with the support of an Individualized Educational Plan. She is no longer in a self-contained classroom due to the gains she has made and she is now in an integrated preschool program. Addy’s speech has also increased and she continues to receive speech therapy at school to assist with her speech delays.

Legally freed for adoption, Addison will need a family that is prepared for her needs and the unknowns that come with it. A family that has parenting experience would be preferred.

Addison will need a family that is able to keep her in contact with her younger sister and grandmother with four to six visits a year. She also has an open adoption agreement with her birth mother for post-adoption visits.

What Will It Take For Our Veterans To Get The Help They Need?

    in Military

Over 2 million veterans still cannot get the help that they need. There are many Vietnam veterans who are so sick and are still being denied the help that they need to live yet the government has money to help other people in need. These brave people cannot work because they are so ill and therefore cannot provide for themselves much less their families. There are two bills, HR-969 and S. 68 that would help these brave souls obtain the medical assistance that they need. However, they are having a hard time obtaining support from elected officials. Unless the public pushes for these bills to pass, these veterans will die before they receive that help. In this segment of The Organic View Radio Show, host June Stoyer talks to Mr. John J. Bury, a retired US Navy and Vietnam War Veteran. He is going to talk about attempts to pass bills HR-969 and S. 68 and why some of our elected officials are choosing to ignore veterans. Stay tuned!
