World Kitchen Presents: Erika Beckwith and Robin Hunt
Cocktails and Conversation hosts Erika Beckwith and Robin Hunt know how stressful the wedding-planning process can be. After all, over the past decade, they’ve done it hundreds of times for their own clients in the Detroit and Atlanta areas. However, says Erika, “Our advice to you is take a breath, make yourself a French martini and calm down. Planning your big day can seem like an overwhelming task, but if you break it down into bite-sized pieces, it can be manageable. The first question you need to ask yourself is, Do I see my wedding as modern and contemporary, or classic and traditional? After that, do I envision it taking place in the spring, summer, fall or winter? And then, what would be my ideal number of guests?”

World Kitchen Presents Wedding Day Radio: Leah McCarthy
Planning an outdoor wedding? Fabulous! Just be sure to take a tip from Weddings with Leah host Leah McCarthy. “The most obvious detail to consider is the weather. Not only rain, but here in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, we have to take into consideration the heat. And the time of year we choose,” she says. “We can of course say our prayers. But when Mother Nature’s involved, you never know what’ll happen. So you want to make sure you have a contingency plan. Often at popular outdoor venues, there will be some indoor space nearby that can be easily switched. And if you do choose a hot month, you’ll want to keep your guests comfortable. So be sure to have some cold drinks available before the ceremony, and perhaps even some towels on ice with lemon slices.”

World Kitchen Presents Wedding Day Radio: Jeannie Uyanik
“If you’ve recently gotten engaged, the first thing you should do is sit down and think about your guest list,” says Wedding Planning Radio host Jeannie Uyanik. “Because it sets the tone for two things: how much space you need, and how much money you need to pay for all of those guests. Whenever I talk to couples, I always ask, ‘How many people on your guest list? And they always say something like, ‘We think it’s about 200.’ But most of the time, it’s actually about 300.”

World Kitchen Presents Wedding Day Radio: Raymond Tsang
When you hire Raymond Tsang and Justin DeMers of Stillmotion Pictures to shoot your wedding, be prepared for a production worthy of Steven Spielberg. “Regardless of how small the cameras are becoming, there still needs to be a relatively large setup, compared to someone with just one tripod, Raymond tells Wedding Planning Radio host Jeannie Uyanik. “And in Jane and Fred’s case”—he adds of Jeannie’s pals who tied the know last year—“it was very much kind of a fairy-tale wedding. And Jane looked like a princess. So the steadycam in that case was fitting. It made the shot very grand, very eipc, which was the effect the couple was looking for. So we were able to tell a much more powerful of a story.”

World Kitchen Presents Wedding Day Radio: Debi Lilly
“When you first get engaged, you have a lot of things you’re figuring out and learning about and it becomes overwhelming because there’s so much to do,” says Debi Lilly of A Perfect Event—aka Oprah Winfrey’s wedding planner. “So we’ve created a storefront you can walk into seven days a week and see trends tables that are always set with linens and china and flowers and menu cards and favors—just like you’ve walked into a wedding. We also have a full stationary department, where we carry the big-name brands, and do custom designs. We had a bride who was marrying an NFL player and she ordered a silk box embroidered with her monogram in antigue blue with acqua gold. And, boom, that’s what we created.”

World Kitchen Presents Wedding Day Radio: Jacqueline Nwobu
Jacqueline Nwobu has a simple message for couples planning their honeymoon: forget the Carribbean. “We have a feature on our website called The Pearls of Africa that we started after our research showed a wealth of great honeymoon destinations there,” the Munaluchi Bridal magazine editor tells Nightly Candy Chat host Nana-Adwoa Ofori. “Now we’re out to change the perception of Africa, so when people think of the continent, they don’t automatically associate it with poverty and suffering. We want them to realize there’s surfing and blue water and beaches and skydiving. Any activity you can think of can be done over there.”

World Kitchen Presents Wedding Day Radio: Angela Gala
When your surname’s a synonym for festive occasions, we’re guessing you’ve got something on the, ah, ball. So when Angela Gala of Rogers & Gala Event Planning weighs in on the benefits of a wedding planner, we listen. “They can help save you money, they can help you select the right venue,” she tells I Do Radio host Angela Chester. “The biggest benefit we can offer is working with you from the very beginning. We recently had a bride who’d chosen her cake vendor, and it wasn’t someone we were familiar with, but she’d tasted a cake the vendor had baked and thought it was just wonderful. Come the day of the event, she brings the cake, and a piece on the back was falling off, some appliques were falling off and the chocolate was starting to melt.”

World Kitchen Presents Wedding Day Radio: Saukok Tiampo
As a cross of sorts between Pinterest and QVC, Saukok Tiampo’s Revel platform has been a blessing for many a DYI bride. Users can browse pics of everything from invites to jewelry to kitchenware by category, color or style. And if something strikes her fancy, she can click directly through to the manufacturer to buy it. “There’s a ton of images out there and often they’ve been repurposed over and over again. But there’s very little source information about how to make these things happen, which can be very frustrating for people who don’t have planners, Saukok tells Wedding Planning Radio host Jeannie Uyanik. “We’ve tried to make it easy as possible to find the original source from one screen.”

World Kitchen Presents Wedding Day Radio: Leah McCarthy
Sure your wedding guests shed a tear as you tie the knot and smooch the groom, but what’s not-so-secretly on the minds of many during the ceremony is, What’s to eat? So catering should always be at the top of every couple’s list. “Guests want to be able to recognize the food. And when their bellies are welcomed with that yummy comfort food their mamas made, they’re very happy guests,” says Weddings with Leah host Leah McCarthy. “So when first meeting with your caterers, ask them how they’d incorporate your theme into the menu. That will add more surprises in terms of conveying who you and your groom are. One popular way to start the reception is offering a signature drink at the bar. But be sure to ask how many bartenders the bartender will have per guest. I recommend per 50 guests for a full bar, and one per 75 for a beer and wine bar.”

World Kitchen Presents Wedding Day Radio: Diann Valentine
There’s a reason uber-producer Mark Burnett picked Diann Valentine to host his Wedding Day reality series: She’s got a passion for making brides and grooms happy. “We travel around the country and find deserving couples who, for one reason or another face circumstances that prevent them from having the wedding of their dreams,” the celebrity events planner tells Buzzworthy Radio host NaVell Lee. “So we show up and in four days, we supersize it and make it bigger and better than anything they could have ever imagined. And we make the whole process simple for them.”

World Kitchen Presents Wedding Day Radio: Beth Parentice
When is green champagne a welcome sight at a wedding reception? When it’s poured by Beth Parentice of Eco-Bar. “More and more spirit companies are making their products organically—not using preservatives and pestacides. And if it’s a hard liquor that uses corn or wheat, the distillers are using organic corn or wheat,” she tells I Do Radio host Angela Chester. “What we do is not only use organic spirits, but we combine them with organic juices or herbs or dairy products. “We’re also economical because we don’t usually come with a full bar. Most clients will choose about three signature cocktails, plus one wine and one beer.”

World Kitchen Presents Wedding Day Radio: Kerry Vincent
Cake designer Kerry Vincent insists that 30 days is far from sufficient lead time for booking your wedding baker. “There’s so much rubbish on the Internet and editorial advice in magazines that says, Oh you only need to get your cake designer a month before. That’s the worst possible thing they can do!” the Food Network Challenge judge tells Core Buisness Group host Tim Jacquet. “If you want a cake that’s unique, you need to give the designer at least three months. If that designer is bombarded with requests for huge tiered cakes just a month out, what’s going to result is shoddy design work. In many ways it’s easier to get your dress than it is to get your cake. Because there are hundreds of dress designers out there whose products you can readily get. But if you’re living in a small or medium sized town, your choices on the confection front will be much narrower.”
