Childhood Brain Injuries: More Than a Bump on the Head

    in Education

Children are at high risk for brain injuries. The fall off changing tables, they are dropped by parents and other loved ones they are unsteady on their feet and therefore tend to fall down and hurt their fragile developing brains. Because children are growing rapidly they make what is thought to be a fast recovery. However, while tissue and bones might heal quickly the altered brain may take a different track. The greatest difficulties become apparent when they reach adolescence and their hormones kick in and the worse, out of control behaviors begins. Our guest tonight suffered such an injury when he was 11 years old. Back then brain injury was very poorly understood and he and his family were cut adrift to learn as you go the mysteries of brain injury. Well, this kid and his family were put through the mill and he has just recently learned what went wrong and why. Join us tonight for a discussion of their experiences of brain injury and what the family and what the future has in store.
