A few weeks ago I talked about my quest to improve my thyroid function and stabilize my weight.
Jayne and I completely change the way we eat eliminating foods that we discovered were possibly slowing down our thyroid function and replaced it with foods that supported greater thyroid function.
Thursday night I will be sharing our results with you, and if this is something I would recommend for my clients and customers.
Tune in to hear all about if it worked.
I will also be revealing the order numbers of the three customers who won our double your order sweepstakes from our Labor Day sale.
These three lucky people will automatically have their orders doubled which they can choose to either have shipped out right away or held in our warehouse for a future round.
Could the you be one of our lucky winners? Tune in Thursday night to find out live!

Miller says: If you actually look at rural roots of soul food in the antebellum South, it was a cuisine primarily based on seasonal vegetables, and very little meat was eaten. Meat was typically used to flavor the vegetables, which fits into a culinary framework from West Africa, where dried, salted, or smoked fish was often used to one pot meals. Frying was for special occasions, so their food tended to be baked, boiled, or eaten raw. Think about what nutritionists are telling us to eat: dark leafy greens, sweet potatoes, legumes, and fish. These are building blocks of soul food! In the antebellum South, the enslaved were pretty much fed water, vegetables with little meat; prestige foods were only served during special occasions on weekends, when the work schedule slowed down. Because of the shift in tempo, you could do more elaborate cooking using more prestigious and processed ingredients like butter, refined flour, sugar, and whole milk rather than the whole-wheat flour, molasses, and buttermilk that was more readily available. The diet is closer to what we now call vegan. Soul food’s unhealthy reputation grows when more celebration foods and processed foods enter the diet as people become more prosperous. Quite naturally, if you have more disposable income, you start eating the good stuff more often; thus, celebration food becomes more commonplace. This is further compounded by eating more fast food and industrialized food. To me, that’s a bigger factor of perceived health problems in the African American community, more so than soul food.
Another diet is NOT the answer
There’s a good chance that a diet is what spiraled you into binge eating in the first place. I know that was the case for me. In the past I have experimented with several diets: low fat, low carb, and numerous others. And I kept looking for the diet that would end all of the confusion and allow me to escape the binge eating behaviors I had developed.
But thankfully I finally realized that another diet is not the answer.
In my experience, strict diets, especially those that revolve around limiting or completely eliminating foods, food groups, or macronutrients only add fuel to the binge eating fire.
The solution is not found in a diet, so don’t search for one.

Nutrient timing is a planned alteration of macronutrient intake in order to promote health, workout performance, and get/stay lean.
Nutrient timing strategies are based on how the body handles different types of food at different times. One of the most important nutrient timing principles is that it’s best to eat most non-fruit and veggie carbohydrates during and after exercise.
Many factors influence energy balance, with the laws of thermodynamics being the most important determinants of weight gain and weight loss. Yes, this means how much we eat is priority #1 when changing body composition.
But the key here is “body composition.” If we’re losing equal amounts of fat and muscle when losing weight or gaining equal amounts of fat and muscle when gaining weight, we’re not taking advantage of nutrient timing.
