Saul Canelo Alvarez vs. Amir Khan For WBC Middleweight Crown

    in Sports

Tonight, we discuss the bombshell fight announcement from earlier today when we learned that WBC/Lineal middleweight champion of the world Saul “Canelo” Alvarez will be defending his title against Amir Khan at a catch weight of 155lbs. Even fresh off of one of the biggest fights of his career – a win over Miguel Cotto last year – Canelo is determined to prove he is willing to make the biggest matchups possible.

Canelo and Khan will take place in Las Vegas, likely at the new T-Mobile arena scheduled to open in April, but the site is not yet determined. However, we do know that the mega showdown will happen May 7th on HBO PPV. The announcement sent shockwaves through the boxing world, specifically through social media. Now, we attempt to bring together and discuss all the excitement, all the concerns and all of the speculation that makes this fight so important. And, of course, we will be taking live calls on air from you the voice of the people. From Alumni to first-time callers, we encourage everyone to call 646-478-3068 to voice your opinion. And remember you can express your opinion in writing by becoming part of the team and writing for the site- contact Mario Mungia or Nestor Gibbs at Theboxingvoice@yahoo.com. Boxing History: Light Heavyweight Rematches

    in Sports

This weekend's HBO main event is a rematch between Sergey Kovalev and Jean Pascal that nobody really asked for and few seem to want. There has been some weird press conference drama, but otherwise we could just do without it. Fighters do have to fight, though.

As an accompaniment to this light heavyweight rematch, Aris Pina of Compubox and The Fight City's Patrick Connor, both total suckers fo fight history, talk about other notable rematches at 175 pounds.

From Roy Jones Jr. vs Montell Griffin II to Dennis Andries vs Jeff Harding II, and back around again to Matthew Saad Muhammad vs Marvin Johnson II... Plus a lot more.

Andre Ward vs Sullivan Barrera, The P4P King Is Back?

    in Sports

On today’s edition of Thaboxingvoice Radio Show, the panel discusses the recently announced HBO headliner between Andre Ward and Sullivan Barrera taking place March 26th at the Oracle Arena in Oakland, California. After a month or so of speculation, the fight was formally announced this week with yesterday’s media call to officially kickoff the promotion, although reports of the fight being finalized surfaced last week.

Despite having competed at a catch-weight above 168lbs in his return fight against Paul Smith last June, this will be Ward’s first official fight at light heavyweight since announcing his certain decision to move up from super middleweight – a weight class he dominated and reigned over for years. The undefeated Barrera will to take advantage of the size factor that comes with years of experience campaigning at the light heavyweight division.

Joining us today will be bantamweight Alexis Santiago as he prepares for his Fox Sports 1 headliner against Erik Ruiz in Las Vegas on a Mayweather Promotions card. Jamel Herring will also appear as a guest on today’s show, fresh off his own Fox Sports 1 headliner this past Tuesday in which he defeated Luis Eduardo Flores by unanimous decision through 10 rounds.
