Sister Jenna discusses the Brahma Kumaris launch of the One Initiative beginning September 15, 2014, and culminating in a Finale on September 21, 2014, involving more than one million people, at Brahma Kumaris Centers in over 135 countries - an initiative to deepen the relationship with the Divine, a time of meditation, awareness, and remembrance.
Message from Dadi Janki, Chief, Brahma Kumaris
The Brahma Kumaris understand this to be a time for personal and world transformation. We believe this happens as each one remembers the ONE above, the parent of all souls. To support this transformation at this powerful time, we have created what we are calling, "The ONE initiative." When each one of us makes a commitment to keep the company of only ONE, this collective commitment will create a wave of powerful vibrations.

California may not have a legalization initiative on November’s ballot, but there will be several mmj initiatives including a flourishing one in La Mesa. Endorsed by the San Diego County Democratic Central Committee, this initiative has a very good chance of passage which will make La Mesa one of a handful of cities with voter approved dispensaries.
Cyra Velazquez from Safe Access LaMesa is the show’s first guest and will discuss how the initiative came into being, the tepid city council response and how they snared the SD County Democratic Central Committee endorsement.
Our second guest comes from paradise, the Hawaiian Islands - legendary Maui Wowie, the home of the Chum Gang. However it is not mj paradise for marijuana advocates. One of the more high profile activist in Hawaii is Roger Christie who spent 4 ½ years in a federal prison claiming the right to use marijuana as a religious sacrament. Our second guest is Brian Murphy who met last week with Roger at a half-way house where he is currently residing until he is released.
Roger Christie has paid a terrible price for his devotion to marijuana. Brian reports on how Roger is doing, what’s next and what he plans to do once released.
In addition Bryan speaks about his role as an operator of Patients Without Time, a mmj dispensary that was raided and closed. Bryan is facing multiple decades in jail and has been offered a plea deal which he will talk about on the show.

All that stands between you and victory is the towering ogre staring you down, drooling and looking at you as his next meal. What do you do? Roll Initiative!

Tonight on The Gist of Freedom www.BlackHistoryUniversity.com, we'll talk with Jamel Robinson, founder of the Jamel Robinson Child Welfare Reform Initiative!
1837-1915 Amanda Berry Smith devoted her life to the ministry of the African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church. Her most noted achievement is the opening of the first orphanage for black children in Illinois.
In 1899, the orphanage opened its doors to homeless African American girls. The 12-room brick house that served as the orphanage was the first of its kind in Illinois.
The community at large was receptive to Smith’s evangelical message and supported the presence of the orphanage. By 1910, the building housed 33 children, up from 12 in 1900
In Harvey, Illinois, a suburb founded by temperance groups south of Chicago, Smith took up the duties of the national representative for the WCTU, and wrote her life’s story. An Autobiography: The Story of the Lord’s Dealings with Mrs. Amanda Smith, the Colored Evangelist was published in 1893. Through book sales, donations, and lecturing fees, she began to raise money for a new cause: an orphanage for black children. She founded and distributed a small newspaper, The Helper, in order to generate publicity and income for the orphanage and other worthy charities
In New York City, there are nearly 14,000 children in foster care, with almost 6,000 new youth entering the system every year. Of those youth, approximately 1/3 are between the ages of 13-19, and less than 20% expect to be adopted. That equates to 1,100 youth aging out of the foster care system in New York each year without a permanent home, family or support network.
Shattered Lives Radio and host Donna R. Gore welcomes Chief Marty Sumner and Shay Harger to the show to further discuss the Offender Focused DV Initiative and how communities in which it’s being utilized are having a positive impact.
A refreshing new approach to combatting intimate partner violence by becoming proactive in the early stages is an important breakthrough by High Point, NC Chief of Police, Marty Sumner.
Although traditional victim focus is still of utmost importance and resources for victims will always be needed, by curtailing offenders at the first offense there’s a likelihood that it will also restrict chronic offenders and remove the immediate danger to the victim more often.
