John Zaffis is THE eminent paranormal researcher and world-renowned demonologist, sought out by frightened families and clergymen alike for nearly four decades. Zaffis and his team of paranormal investigators recently returned for a third season of Syfy’s popular series Haunted Collector, Wednesdays at 9pE/P.
Zaffis has been consulted on countless hauntings around the globe, witnesed nearly 100 exorcisms, and has amassed thousands of possessed objects that reside in his Museum of the Paranormal in Stratford, Conn. His work has also been documented in his book Shadows of the Dark.
On Haunted Collector, Zaffis and team, including his son Chris, daughter Aimee, and noted investigator Brian Cano, travel across America helping people terrorized by items containing paranormal spirits or energy.
When they encounter a ghostly problem, Zaffis and company work with the owner of the object to find the best solution, either returning the item, burying it on site, or bringing it to the museum, where objects are specially stored to keep their powers at bay. Zaffis spent his first years studying under his uncle and aunt, renowned demonologists Ed and Lorraine Warren. which led into his involvement with cases of spirit possession and exorcism and working with prominent exorcists. He has studied the work of Roman Catholic priests, monks, Buddhists, rabbis, and Protestant ministers.
SyFy has done it again, putting a new twist on paranormal reality television with the hit show Haunted Collector. The cast includes renowned demonologist John Zaffis and his right hand man, tech specialist Brian Cano. Brian is responsible for all the equipment and wide variety of gear used during the teams investigations, including some cutting edge gadgets as well as "old stand by's" Mixing the old with the new is a technique that works for Brian and the team, as they search for
Brian is the Tech Specialist, responsible for the implementation and use of all the gadgets and gear. Best known for mixing old and new techniques of investigating, he often finds himself doing the physical tasks, such as crawling under houses and up into attics. He also serves as second in command of the team and helps manage the deployment of the crew itself. Ultimately, his goal as an investigator is to measure, quantify and get empirical evidence to support the claims of paranormal activity reported while maintaining his skeptical edge.
He first recognized his desire to explore the unknown at a young age. Growing up in Staten Island, New York, Brian often took note of abandoned buildings recessed within the woods near his home during Sunday drives with his parents. They called to him, sparking his imagination and his curiosity. Alone or with friends, Brian began exploring the old and abandoned buildings, despite the countless rumors of what may have happened within their walls. Tall tales of Satanic activity, missing children or ghostly sightings were often told, but instead of deterring Brian from his new found hobby, this element of fear and danger only served to add to the allure for him. Since then, he's been looking into the darkness and exploring the dangers that come with the decay of civilization's footprint. Expanding his experiences in urban exploration to include paranormal investigation, there are few places he will not go.
When not crawling in the dark, Brian is a video editor and produces an independent series of paranormal documentaries, entitled, SCARED! Brian's work has been praised in several publications, including TAPS Paramagazine and Haunted Times Magazine. Various episodes of SCARED! have won awards at several film festivals
This episode we will be discussing haunted ships. A ghost ship, also known as a phantom ship, is a ship with no living crew aboard; it may be a ghostly vessel in folklore or fiction, such as the Flying Dutchman, or a real derelict found adrift with its crew missing or dead, like the Mary Celeste The term is sometimes used for ships that have been decomissioned but not yet scrapped. As was the case for the recently rescued USCG Cutter Comanche.
