Autoimmunity-Diagnosing and Correcting an Underlying Problem w/Erica Jurasits,DO

    in Health

Fatigue, inflammation, weight loss resistance, sleepless nights and chronic disease....can it all be caused by an overtaxed immune system?

Your immune system is your body’s “guard”.   It is able to identify what belongs in your body and what doesn’t.  When it finds an “invader” such as a virus, bacteria or heavy metals – its job is to disable them, allowing the body to live and function optimally.  Unfortunately, sometimes the immune system gets overloaded and becomes unable to do its job properly.  It then begins to target healthy tissues, a situation that, if it persists can often lead to an autoimmune disease or autoimmunity.

More than 23 million Americans suffer from autoimmunity, which makes it the third most common category of illness in the United States after cancer and heart disease.  Some of the most common autoimmune diseases include Rheumatoid Arthritis, Type 1 Diabetes, Lupus, Hashimoto’s thyroid disease, along with Allergies and Asthma.

Unless this problem of a dysfunctional immune system is addressed at the ROOT, no amount of intervention will cause the invader to retreat.

Join us as we speak with Erica Jurasits, DO as she talks about what the very first step to healing is and how genetics, lifestyle, environmental factors and stress causes dysfunction in the body.

Dr. Jurasits, founder of Integrative Healing Wellness in Port Jefferson and board certified in Family Medicine uses a patient centered approach to find the “root cause” of illness and brings your body back into balance.

Come see Dr. Jurasits speak live at the upcoming NAVEL Expo November 8th as well as many other wellness oriented, prevention minded doctors and healers.

Autoimmune Thyroiditis from Fertility to Post-Partum with Dr. Jolene Brighten

    in Health

I had a great conversation on the podcast with Dr. Jolene Brighten, ND about thyroid conditions, and how they effect our fertility, our baby's health and our own post-partum health.

I would say that we speak the most on the subject of post-partum, as it's a subject close to my own heart, as well as Jolene's, who discovered well past childbirth that she had post-partum autoimmune thyroiditis.

One thing I think is important to understand deeply is that our reproductive stages are linked, and minding this continuum is critical to our health as we try to conceive, carry a child, and then support a new baby.

    Dr. Brighten talks about:

Why and which thyroid markers to test pre-conception
How an untreated thyroid condition can lead to miscarriage and developmental deficits
Why it's important to test thyroid markers in weeks 6-12 of pregnancy if you are autoimmune thyroid
Why changes in our immune system potentiate thyroid imbalance after childbirth
Which underlaying factors to consider of you have autoimmune thyroid
Why getting support is needed for post-partum health complaints

If you are an autoimmune mom, a mom suffering with post-partum symptoms, a woman diagnosed with autoimmune thyroiditis, or someone curious about thyroid disorders (which are highly on the rise in women,) I think you'll benefit from the info-packed interview with Dr. Brighten.

    Radio Show: The Thyroid-Gut Connection

    in Health

    In this show you’ll learn:

How the Gut-Thyroid-Immune Connection impacts your energy and what you can do to restore balance.
What your Gut Bacteria has to do with your Thyroid, and how to rebuild, repair, and restore your energy by feeding your microbiome
How you can heal the Gut-Thyroid Axis  and recover from autoimmune conditions like Hashimoto’s thyroiditis.

Hippocrates said: “All disease begins in the gut.” 2,500 years later we’re just beginning to understand how right he was. And hypothyroidism is no exception. Poor gut health can suppress thyroid function and trigger Hashimoto’s disease, and low thyroid function can lead to an inflamed and leaky gut.

Join Dr. Ritamarie as she discusses the influence of thyroid hormones on the gut.  Low thyroid hormones make it difficult to heal the gut, and an inflamed and leaky gut contributes to just about every disease there is, including hypothyroidism. Fixing the gut is often the first – and most important step.

Dr. Ritamarie is the founder of the Institute of Nutritional Endocrinology, and has over 23 years of clinical experience as a functional medicine practitioner and clinical nutritionist.
