Stories About Psychotherapy and Psycho"therapy"
by Stories We Live By in Psychology
Tags: Metaphorical Illnesses Metaphorical Therapy Replacing judgments with descriptions Changing Life Stories Love and Creativity
Today I will discuss the difference between psychotherapy which seeks to treat mental illneses and disorders and Psycho"therapy" which recognizes that metaphorical illness require metaphorical therapy. The psycho"therapist" seeks to help people understand and change life stories from those based on the faulty pretence that moral labels (such as those found in the DSM) explain rather than judge. It seeks to help suffering people to replace such judgments with genuine descriptions that produce understanding into the reasons for self-defeating actions, self-inflicted misery and unhappy relationships. Psycho'therapy" alllows people to change the stories they live by and the characters within them to ones more loving, creative, and happy.
