John Smart began working on feature film in the Art department while still in college at the University of New Mexico where he received a BFA in theater. After a number of years working on such films as The Big Easy, Heathers, and Barfly - he decided to teach in Los Angeles and at school for teens who’d gotten in trouble with drugs. He became known for bringing film industry professionals to the school as guest speakers and mentors. Establishing a relationship between the school and the local film and TV industry that lasted long after he was gone. When John returned to working on films he dove into legal clearances. He’s worked on a long list of projects including: The Good Lie, Don Jon, 2 Guns, Shopgirl, The Hot Flashes, Linsanity, Looper, Bullet To The Head and approximately 60 other films, TV shows and DVD games. He loves clearances because he can both assist in legally getting a production difficult items they may want or need for a project - but more importantly a Clearance administrator is one of the last firewalls a production has avoid legal action - and a copyright infringement claim can be lethal for a film. We will be separating fact from fiction when it comes to Women, Kids & Guns.
FERGUSON, Mo. - An unarmed 18-year-old black man was shot and killed by police in suburban St. Louis after an altercation that involved two people and an officer, authorities said Sunday while hundreds of protesters demanded answers outside.
Police have not officially disclosed the name of the man who was killed, but family members say it was 18-year-old Michael Brown.
Belmar said one of the men pushed the officer back into his squad car and the struggle began. Belmar said at least one shot was fired from the officer's gun inside the police car.
The struggle spilled out into the street, where one of the two people was shot multiple times. Belmar said the exact number of shots wasn't known, but "It was more than just a couple." He also said all shell casings found at the scene matched the officer's gun.
Ferguson Police Chief Thomas Jackson said the man who was shot was unarmed.

For three days, demonstrations and police crackdown has taken over the St. Louis suburb of Ferguson, Missouri, where police shot and killed Michael Brown, 18, an unarmed black teenager, on Saturday afternoon. Brown was about to begin college. After a peaceful vigil on Sunday, rioting and looting led to 32 arrests by police in full riot gear. Another 11 to 15 people were reportedly arrested over Monday night. As of earlier today, the Federal Aviation Administration has banned flights over Ferguson airspace “to provide a safe environment for law enforcement activities.
”The hashtag #IfTheyGunnedMeDown has gone viral on Twitter, where young people of color are protesting Brown' death.
Shane Krauser takes on issues that will touch you right at the core, including:
1. What does it mean to be free anyways? We talk about open and honest dialogue, but so many want to stop the dialogue when there is disagreement.
2. MSNBC's Joe Scarborugh went off on certain advocates of the Second Amendment and the founders after a nine-year old child killed a firearms instructor in Arizona. Shane and his co-hosts respond with a heavy hand pertaining to the silliness of Scarborough's argument.
3. Buckley Merrill, the chairman of the East Valley Tea Party in Mesa, Arizona, appears in studio to talk about the grassroots organizations, the problems, and their victories.
4. Government is too big, and here is the evidence.
Our Guest: A graduate from the Académie Charpentier School of Visual Art in Paris in 1999, she worked in the music industry for seven years. Disillusioned by a world driven by mass consumption, she left her work environment and found refuge in Saint-Louis, Senegal, hometown of her father. She discovered her extended family and started portraying them. Delphine then creates the Magic photo studio, homage to Malick Sidibé’s photo studio. She adds collages, drawings and colors to her photographs, to underline the emotions of her subjects and tell the whole story. In 2008, the French-Senegalese photographer moves to New York to live her artistic life, considering that Paris is not the right place for an artist to emerge. She realizes that mixing mediums of expression is a powerful way to describe the world she is trying to capture. On a trip back to Paris, she met Peter Beard and shares her first series of mixed media portraits. Impressed with her creativity and spontaneity, he offers her to collaborate for the Pirelli calendar photo shoot in Botswana. In August 2010, she travels to the Crow country. It opens her to a completely new world, a greater and new vision. She witnesses a progressive resistance among the Crow members, reviving their traditions and rituals. Delphine is amazed by their hospitality and their kindness, a very different experience from the negative image of Native Americans often broadcasted by media. Besides the spirituality and symbolism of their dances, she feels the urge to portray family reunions. The elders recount stories to the young crowd, leaving their western clothes behind to dress like real Indians. Delphine Diaw Diallo is transformed, she believes her art connects with spirits and hopes spirits will help detach humans from the material world. In 2012, Smithsonian named DelphineDiallo one of Photography’s Emerging Stars.
