Tonight we will discuss a hot topic in the praise and worship scene: Are guitarists getting too materialistic? Are we buying excessive amounts of gear to serve God, or using God to justify our excess?
We will also look into Jet City amps and why they are a great value for P&W guitarists with a limited budget. We will also take your calls, prayer requests and discuss general topics.
Author and Photographer Lisa Johnson goes Online With Andrea to discuss her book 108 Rock Star Guitars that features stunning personal and intimate protraits of guitars of rock 'n'roll lumanaries such as Les Paul, Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, Nancy Wilson, Zakk Wylde, Chrissie Hynde, Carlos Santana, and many others. Hosted by Andrea R. Garrison.
Tonight is a tribute show honouring the late great rock blues guitarist, Bugs Henderson. With me tonight is his nephew, Michael Henderson, to talk about some great musical stories.
The Tyler, TX-raised Bugs Henderson took his cues from the wealth of great roadhouse blues and blues-rock guitarists that were around Dallas, including Freddie King, Johnny Winter, and literally dozens of others on the Texas music scene of the '60s. Henderson has cited James Burton, Ricky Nelson's guitarist, as a major influence.
Michael "The Mad Hatter" Henderson started playing drums at 6yrs old and got his 1st Band gig at 11yrs old. He then went on to read music in the 7th grade and had played many types of music over the years. He has played with The Gutter Brothers Band in the Late 80s and even Fronted The Outfield at Caldwell Auditorium.

Immediately, there's a connection: Keith Andrew spent his childhood in Baltimore (small world!) - then moved to the San Francisco Bay area when he was a teen. He had been playing guitar since he was ten - and the rich diversity of music in Northern California fueled him further. Led to Los Angeles, he studied some of the most prestigious guitarists on the planet: Robben Ford, Joe Pass and more.
Keith made sure that he received an education that was suited for the future he was seeking. He was part of the Chaffey College Jazz Ensemble - and excelled so much that he won awards from The National Association of Jazz Educators. He did exceptionally well at the Guitar Institute of Technology, too. And became a staff instructor there. The best of paths followed our guest because he became associated with a very successful L.A. based group called Himilaya. The band got serious buzz and received national airplay - and also had a chance to tour.
Fast forward to 2014 and Keith Andrew has "Adventurous Soul" up and running - with 13 tracks and a who's who of Contemporary Jazz. The COOL piece of this Hybrid puzzle is that Keith has made some terrific choices, regarding who's around him, what he composes, and how he views his music. He found in fellow guitarist, Nils, a kindred spirit. Nils produced six of the songs on "Soul" - and these two exceptional artists found that their FEEL encompassed a fusion that included a vision of World music. Keith developed a passion for expanding his vision when he spent time with the California based group, Zulu Spear. He's an interesting guy, as well as the consummate guitarist. He loves the outdoors and is not a lightweight about it - Keith has been to countries to hike that have only been a part of many of our dreams :) Please join us in welcoming Keith Andrew on 12/4/2014!

The “Secret” is out! 2013 Grammy winner Gregg Karukas is back with a new collection featuring his signature piano touch, pristine production, and melodies that are both soulful and sophisticated. Organic, funky, and melodic is how the original Rippingtons keyboardist describes his latest, long awaited 12th solo project, "Soul Secrets". Gregg's elegant grand piano melodies and infectious grooves are everywhere; this time around he digs into his roots, featuring the classic Fender Rhodes, Wurlie, Minimoog and B3 keyboards quite a bit.
At a generous and expansive 14 tracks and no covers, "Soul Secrets" reveals Karukas as an artist who has refined his sound to be instantly recognizable while constantly exploring a wide range of styles and grooves – from old school soul-jazz, with hints of gospel, R&B and funk to the world/samba grooves he immersed himself in while touring with Brazilian legends Sergio Mendes and Dori Caymmi. The album’s debut single, “Elegant Nights” is classic Karukas; it was the #1 Most Added Track in its first week on radio. The live interplay sizzles as Gregg surrounds himself with an all-star guest list that includes his friends Rick Braun, Euge Groove, guitarists Ricardo Silveira, Michael O’Neill, Adam Hawley and James Harrah; violinist Charlie Bisharat, Luis Conte, Eric Valentine, Nate Phillips; vocalists Shelby Flint and Ron Boustead and 21 year old rising sax star and occasional touring partner Vincent Ingala.
Join host Tanya M. Dixon for a special “Sound of Soul” edition of ART Imitates LIFE Radio Show as she welcomes Funk-Rock singer, songwriter and lefty guitarist MALINA MOYE on the “Soul Spotlight”! We will speak with Malina about working in both the Rock and Soul genres of music, her incredible feats such as being included on the legendary Fender Guitars’ impressive roster of endorsees and the critically acclaimed 2012 Experience Hendrix tour, and what it’s like to be deemed one of the top female guitarists in the world!
We’ll have “Healthy Lifestyles” and in the 2nd hour of the show the AIL Team will play “What Would You Do?” as we go around the world with trivia in 60 minutes!
It’s the premier “Sounds of Soul” featured show and we’ll be featuring music artists throughout the show!

We have all of the regular segments you love, Weird News and Hot Topics. Special in-studio guests and the Game of The Month is back! Halloween Style!
We end Rock-tober with one of today’s premier shred metal guitarists, Xander Demos.
Xander's style ranges from the beautifully melodic to the jaw-droppingly insane. Based in Pittsburgh, PA, he currently fronts his own band, XDB and national tribute act, James Rivera’s Sabbath Judas Sabbath, as well as playing in Rivera’s solo band. Xander performs in excess of 100 times a year, and he is active in recording collaborations with artists all over the world. Xander plays guitars from Suhr, McNaught and Conklin, with whom he has endorsement deals. His endorsement from these guitar companies is a testament to his impressive skills and his deep commitment to playing the best guitars in the world.
Hour one: BeatBuddy. Any musician can attest that good drummers are hard to come by, many venues don't have the space for a drum kit, and drum machines aren’t practical for jamming or live gigging. BeatBuddy from Singular Sound solves these issues by giving guitarists, bass players and even keyboard players something they never had before: Complete, hands-free LIVE creative control of a beat. There’s been a huge buzz in the music community about the revolutionary BeatBuddy drum machine ever since Singular Sound’s Indigogo campaign achieved full funding of its target within a mere 20 hours and proceeded to become the most successful crowdfunding campaign for any musical product!
Hour two: Craig and Ben do Computer and Technology News, brought to you by Slimware Utilities, the Official Optimization Software of Computer America, and answer your computer questions!
Oh my....how can this episode of "Hybrid Jazz From Trish Hennessey" be described? Let's try :) First, the FUN planned for you is too amazing for words. Carefully chosen songs for the season of Halloween - some funky, some scary - others sensual to create the mood. No tricks - only TREATS!
With that in mind, we give you the intense artistry of handsome and brilliant Juanito Pascual! Completely magnetic, this Minneapolis raised acoustic guitar master will sweep you into the embrace of his gift. National Public Radio has called him, "One of the hottest flamenco guitarists in recent years." For yours truly, this quote doesn't quite tell the story. Because, you see, Juanito is a flamenco HYBRID - cultivating the respect for a style that he clearly owns when he plays - but also paying homage to the heroes that he heard as learned to play - at age 11. Jimi Hendrix, Johann Sebastian Bach, Miles Davis and The Grateful Dead. His music is firmly rooted in traditions but he is not to be boxed. That passion spills over with Classical and Jazz and is influenced profoundly by Beatles and the beauty that he encounters in his many journeys - well before his 2003 debut solo, "Cosas en Comun."
From his stay in Spain where he learned to survive on the streets - to his return to the States to study at the New England Conservatory (graduating with honors!) - to the formation of the New Flamenco Trio in 2012 - Juanito Pascual is recognized as a formidable talent in both America and in Spain. Where major artists revere him as an equal.
There is so much to his story! And we'll get to all of it - but the main reason for Juanito's visit is to tell you of his tour in support of his new CD. We'll hear most amazing tracks...and The Chat Room will be well-stocked with virtual Halloween candy. And MAGIC (shhhhh!)
