With Thanksgiving just around the corner, There's of course some great cooking being done for family and friends to enjoy. But how often do you think of Christ and what he's done for us, giving and offering up his life and bringing great hope to a lost and dying world. There should be a difference in how we express ourselves during this time of the year and how the world expresses itself. Were way too quick to jump to Christmas with the key focus on Black friday and don't reflect enough on the cross, Christ awesome love for us and how he brought us up out of our slavery to sin. And so the question must be asked, do I have a grateful heart today? Am I depending way too much on gifts rather than the giver Himself? Do I complain more than expressing my grattitude for all the Lord has done? May God help us to truly reflect and focus on what really matters most, our relationship with God, our families and knowing that one day we will spend eternity with Him.

This weekend in the US is Thanksgiving weekend, where we eat too much and give thanks for all that we're grateful for.
But I have spoken with some women lately in some pretty desparate and emotionally abusive situations. Logic tells them that they should put up with the abuse because there's enough other good things in their life and they should be grateful.
On any given day, there is an abundance to be grateful for: our health, our jobs, our friends and family. We absolutely should be grateful for those small miracles that surround us. But, we shouldn’t use those things as a crutch to keep us stuck in emotionally abusive relationships.
We are, in fact, deserving of all the abundance life offers every day as well as deserving of being loved, honored and cherished in our relationships.

Thanksgiving is the one day a year that we say thanks for many things in our lives and a little thanks goes a long long way. A little gratitude changes your day and being humble, that is something that comes with understanding that being thankful and being grateful are not simply trends of our times, they are ways of life. We are already capable of many great knowings and doings, and we are also capable at living in the moment of the holidays we share because it is the one time of the year that time is made to notice each other and give thanks for those we know and love in our lives. The holidays are right around the corner and this is the season when people start to think about being more grateful and appreciating what they have. There are 365 days in a year so we shouldn't only be grateful around the holidays. What does it mean to be more grateful for what we have? Why is it difficult for people to be grateful but so easy for them to complain? What are the effects of being appreciative and complaining, and how can you learn to be grateful if you've never done it before?
Research shows that consistently grateful people are happier, more energetic, more hopeful, more helpful, more empathic, more spiritual, more forgiving, and less materialistic. They’re also less likely to be depressed, anxious, lonely, envious, neurotic, or sick.
Why would we not be grateful? This is a discipline, a discipline of our mind, our will, and our nature. We are hard wired by sin to complain, lament, bemoan, commiserate; regarding any circumstance we are experiencing. Even if we win the lottery we’ll complain about taxes and how many “new” friends we have.
The lead of Jesus was to thank his father daily, eventually even thankful for the “cup” that would not pass from his life. Imagine what our lives would be like if we had a complaining Christ, a bitter Jesus? Let’s make this Thanksgiving a hallmark event in our life, a commitment to live differently, love differently, and think differently.
