Pole sitter Lewis Hamilton was a commanding presence, on the track today in Sochi during qualifying, at the Formula One Russian Grand Prix. He was two-tenths ahead of his teammate, Nico Rosberg who secured second.
The 53-lap street circuit with challenging twists and turns, on a purposefully built track, is in the heart of the beautiful Black Sea Resort in Sochi. The long straight before turn one is where Hamilton will likely battle with Rosberg to hold onto, first position. The other drivers also view the location as a great place to improve, their position during the race.
Williams-Martini driver, Valtteri Bottas was third. Bottas set the fastest first and second sectors on his final run, but started to struggled towards the end of the lap and lost the rear of the car in the last corner. As a result Bottas had to settle for third on the grid, with Jenson Button taking his best dry qualifying of the year in fourth.
Russian driver Daniil Kvyat for Toro Rosso, was excited to race at his home circuit. He made an impressive showing by securing 5th position, the best qualifying result of his career.
Disappointed, was Daniel Ricciardo in 7th who had a bit of a problem with the grip, of the new track stating, “It was hard to read the grip.” His Red Bull teammate Sebastian Vettel in eleventh position was not satisfied with the rear of the car while taking corners. He said, “The car felt nervous”.
Force India continues to work hard for points. Team Principal Vijay Mallya said “the penalty against Nico Hulkenberg was unfortunate and strategy options will be limited on a track where overtaking appears difficult.” At the end of the day, the teams learned quite a bit from qualifying on the new track.

There is a level of being in which the ALL THAT IS truly is all there is. You have no need of anything--because you are everything! You have no boundaries because, when you are All That Is, there is nothing left to be outside of you./
This is the level which we will now refer to as The Gathering of the One. This level of consciousness would be likened to PURE BLISS. There is complete diffusion of focus and a truly porous consistency to all things. Literally, everything and everyone can exist within the same space at once! If this concept sounds somewhat fantastic to you, then realize also that even the words we speak to describe this level of Being are grossly inadequate and incredibly dense in //comparison to this level of infinite harmony and love./

This Science of 'as above so below' is the most ancient universal system of harmonizing man with his natural surrounds! The stars above and the stars below, i.e.: our own bodies. Mankind is in harmony with Nature only when he realizes that he is the microcosm of the Universe and a Galaxy unto himself. /

Francis X. Donnelly, in the Detroit News, tells the story of Detroiter Mamie Chalmers, who claims -- with significant evidence to back her up -- that she was one of the people blasted by a fire hose during a 1963 demonstration in Birmingham, Ala. The image became an iconic photo and did much to convey to the world the police brutality during the civil rights movement in the south.
Now the Detroit News has published a story saying that one of Birmingham’s most prominent civil rights activists, Carolyn McKinstry, 65, has for years been claiming to be the girl in a famous Life magazine photograph of demonstrators being blasted by water from a fire hose, while Mamie Chalmers, 71, the actual person in the photograph, lives in Detroit.

There were a few surprises on the track during practice at the Singapore Airlines Formula One Grand Prix in Singapore. A surprise showing by the Ferrari team gave fans a reason to sit up and take notice. At the end of the first practice session, the fastest man on the track was Fernando Alonso. MercedesAMG driver, Lewis Hamilton, was second fastest, followed by his teammate, Nico Rosberg.
Four-time champion Red Bull Sebastian Vettel seems to be improving and had the fourth fastest car. Lotus driver Pastor Maldonado did not disappoint when he ended his practice session, after hitting the side of the wall at a turn known as, ‘the Singapore Sling’. Rosberg had to cut short his second lap, when Maldonado hit the wall. Prior to Maldonado’s crash, Rosberg was fastest on the track, so Hamilton must not under-estimate him at qualifying. By the end of practice 2, fastest on the track was Hamilton, Alonso, Daniel Ricciardo, Kimi Raikkonen then Sebastian Vettel.
The weekend entertainment during the Singapore Grand Prix features, family friendly entertainment, and late night performances for the mature party set.

‘The Brilliant Brit’ Lewis Hamilton, driver for Mercedes dominated the track in Sochi today, winning the inaugural race of the Formula One, Russian Grand Prix. In what can only be called a spectacular performance on the track, Lewis Hamilton clinched the Constructors Championship title for the Mercedes AMG F1 team giving them their first ever; win, of the title that honors the entire team.
Mercedes won 13 out of 16 races thus far, with three more remaining. Lewis Hamilton won 9 of the 13 for Mercedes. One does not have to be a fan to recognize Hamilton is a superior driver who has made a great contribution to the Mercedes team. As usual, the dignified and gracious Hamilton pointed out, the engineers, mechanics and workers in the factory and the garage were all part of what made his success on the track possible.
Starting in second and finishing second was Hamilton’s teammate, Nico Rosberg. He tried to overtake Hamilton on lap-1 but ran out of space and locked up. The error forced Rosberg to pit early for a tire change on lap 2. But when he got back out, he did a great job fighting his way from eleventh, to a second place finish, on the same set of tires. Rosberg has four wins under his belt and exclaim, “I’m looking forward to the last three races.”
Fans can always count on an impressive drive by Valtteri Bottas, with Williams-Martini. He landed third on the podium giving his team enough points to leapfrog over Ferrari. Bottas seemed satisfied with third after giving up second position to Rosberg, something his fans believe would not have happened had Bottas been more aggressive, in protecting his position.
Rounding out the top five were Jenson Button and Kevin Magnussen, with McLaren. Sergio Perez with Sahara Force India scored a point for his team coming in tenth.

The Formula One Japanese Grand Prix got off on an extremely wet track with blinding visibility, behind a safety car. The race was red-flagged in the second lap due to increasingly harsh weather. By lap ten, track conditions had improved enough to recall the safety car and the race recommenced with pole sitter Nico Rosberg in the lead, closely followed by teammate and championship leader Lewis Hamilton. In lap 43 Adrian Sutil crashed his car along the tire barriers as torrential rains started once again. Then disaster hit in lap 44 as Marussia driver Jules Bianchi veered off the track hitting the Crain that was cleaning up the Sutil crash site. Hamilton had a ten second over Rosberg when the safety car was once again deployed due to the severity, of the Bianchi crash and worsening weather conditions, which lead to race officials stopping and calling the race.
Third place on the podium was Red Bull Sebastian Vettel followed by his teammate Daniel Ricciardo. Sadness over the Bianchi crash kept the celebrated atmosphere at a minimum. This win was a 30th career victory for leader and 2008 champion Lewis Hamilton who is one win short of matching champion hero and compatriot, Nigel Mansell’s record.
Just when Nico Rosberg thought he would be pole sitter for the Formula One Grand Prix in Singapore, his team-mate Lewis Hamilton pulls the rug out in Q3 by seven one-thousandth of a second. Red Bull Daniel Ricciardo was 3rd, his team-mate Sebastian Vettel 4th, and Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso was 5th. This was the sixth pole position of the 2014 season for Hamilton and a much needed one, for a track like Singapore. Sundays race in Singapore will be the first test of the new radio rules.
