Our guest today is 4 Times Grammy Nominated Dorothy Moore. Her song "Misty Blue" is on the 2015 movie, Black or White, starring Kevin Costner and Octavia Spencer soundtrack. And is receiving rave reviews!
Her career took off with several ballads for Malaco Records. Her version of the song “Misty Blue” (1976) reached number 1 on the R & B Chart and “Funny How Time Slips Away” (also 1976) reached number 7 on the R&B chart and number 58 on the pop chart. “I Believe You” was number 5 on the R&B and number 27 on the pop chart in 1977.
She has been inducted into the Mississippi Musicians Hall of Fame, Drum Major for Justice MLK Award 2008, Lifetime Achievement Award Monterey Bay Blues Festival, James Brown Heritage Jus Blues Award 2009, The Blues Foundation Board of Directors Award 2006-2012, nominated for two Blues Music Awards 2013, Mississippi Arts Commission Achievement Award, Mississippi Blues Trail Markers.
In a previously recorded special edition of Off the Record with Georgette Pierre, I took my radio show on the road. While in LA, I met up with Grammy nominated producer, Mason Levy, known for his work on Justin Bieber's hit single "Boyfriend", Maroon 5's "Daylight", and much more…all at the age of 22. We met up in beautiful Pasadena and what was so inspiring about his story was his humility, having achieved his level of success at such a young age but his drive to tell his story through what he loves to do. Having signed a publishing deal at such a young age, his story is nowhere near over and our conversation was just the beginning.
Laura Sullivan is a GRAMMY® winning composer and recording artist. Her original music has been included in the score of two Emmy winning documentaries, as well as in many popular television programs and advertisements for Fortune 500 companies.
Laura Sullivan's release Love's River won a GRAMMY® for BEST NEW AGE ALBUM in the 56th GRAMMY® awards which aired on CBS on January 26, 2014.
GRAMMY® winning composer, Laura Sullivan, called out to the world to join her in a powerful plan to make a music video. Her request was simple. Take a video of yourself singing her song “900 Voices” and send it to her. The response was overwhelming.
938 people from Australia, Brazil, Israel, Croatia, Korea, Kenya, India, and many other countries, participated by making videos on their cell phones and sending them to Laura.
The result is epic. 27 languages included in one song and video about love and unity. The video has been released on April 9, 2015 and is titled “900 Voices.”
50% of the music proceeds of “900 Voices” are going towards the national nonprofit Little Kids Rock. This organization partners with economically disadvantaged school districts to run music programs. To date they have served more than 325,000 children in 13 states.
