Melinda Cooper worked for 18+ years with a very large government agency in various positions such as Employee/Labor Relation Specialist, Paralegal for the Regional Law Office, and Congressional Liaison. She has a BA from the University of Texas at Dallas in government and politics, a mother of 2 adult children and is a wife. Melinda started her first business in fashion for children and teens at the age of 16 until she sold it to a national clothing chain owned by Merry-Go-Round Enterprises, Inc. Melinda has been in various businesses while working her career with the government agency until 2008 when she walked away to Live Her Dream.
It was during her junior year at Virginia Tech, that Richmond, VA native, Dr. Thea Green, explored her interest in psychology and decided to change her major. Her passions for addressing the needs of women and people of color led her to pursue additional studies in Women’s Studies and Black Studies. After realizing that she had a passion for psychology and helping others, and after receiving insight and guidance from Tech’s Psychology department, she decided to pursue a Masters in Counseling Education degree at Michigan State University.
While pursuing her Master’s degree, Dr. Green worked at a local treatment facility that provided individual, group, family, and intensive outpatient care to individuals with mental illnesses and substance abuse/chemical dependency issues. Again, Dr. Green decided that she wanted to further her education to ensure that she would become as highly skilled and proficient as possible in the mental health field to provide exceptional services to those who sought her counsel. She chose to pursue a Pastoral Counseling PhD from Loyola University Maryland.
On November 8, 2012, Dr. Thea Green successfully defending her dissertation and went on to graduate from Loyola University in May 2013. She recently opened her own private practice in Ashland, Virginia, Iasis Counseling and Consulting Services, LLC where she provides numerous services including but not limited to: individual and group therapy, relationship counseling, substance abuse/chemical dependency counseling, behavior counseling, spiritual counseling, counseling related to cultural and gender issues and clinical supervision.

The Paw Project educates the public about why declawing is inhumane. Many people, including animal lovers, do not realize that declawing is a surgical procedure in which the animal's toes are amputated at the last joint. A portion of the bone, not just the nail, is removed.
Declawing may result in permanent lameness, arthritis, and other long-term complications. The practice, although common in the United States, is actually illegal in many countries. Great Britain's Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons goes so far as to declare declawing "unnecessary mutilation."
Dr. Jennifer Conrad, Founder and Director, Paw Project has cared for wildlife on six continents for over two decades. She is an impassioned advocate for animal welfare, who has seen first-hand the suffering and exploitation of animals, destruction of habitat, and gratuitous hunting—all of which threaten the welfare and very survival of many species. Dr. Conrad has participated in many programs to protect and improve the lives of wild animals. She has traveled to Namibia to de-horn rhinos, making them unattractive targets for slaughter by poachers who prize the horns for ornamental uses.
Dr. Conrad is a graduate of the University of California, Davis, School of Veterinary Medicine and is a member of the American Veterinary Medicine Association (AVMA), the American Association of Zoo Veterinarians (AAZV), and the European Association of Zoo and Wildlife Veterinarians (EAZWV).

1. Placebo response has many sources in clinical trials for psychiatric disorders, and we will describe each of these sources before moving on to discuss how they interact and combine to form the observed placebo response.
2. Some, but not all, sources of placebo response have significant implications for the treatment of patients with psychiatric disorders, and we will discuss these with future directions for research.
3. Interesting similarities and differences in placebo response occur between psychiatric disorders, which can be informative about both the mechanisms of action of placebo response as well as the pathophysiology of the disorder in question
For more information about our research programs and clinical services, please contact them at:(646) 774-8664

Join me as I speak with Alexis De Veaux: Author • Poet • Activist about her newest work of love, Yabo.
Alexis De Veaux was born and raised in Harlem, the product of two merging streams of black history in New York City-immigrants from the Caribbean on her mother’s side and migrants from North Carolina on her father’s side-who settled in Harlem in the early decades of the twentieth century. The second of eight children, that history was embedded in her mother’s view of life: “You got three strikes against you. You poor, you black, and you female.” But Alexis was drawn to the world of words and books and literature soon became the means by which she re-imagined the world her mother understood.
As an artist and lecturer she has traveled extensively in the United States, Canada, the Caribbean, Latin America, Japan, and Europe. Alexis published a second award-winning children’s book, An Enchanted Hair Tale (1987) before moving to Buffalo; where she finished graduate school, earning a doctorate in American Studies, in 1992. A project nearly ten years in the making, her biography of Audre Lorde, Warrior Poet (2004) has been the recipient of several awards, including the Gustavus Meyers Outstanding Book Award (2004), the Lambda Literary Award for Biography (2004), the Hurston/Wright Foundation Legacy Award, Non-fiction (2005). Her work is available in English, Spanish, Dutch, Japanese, and Serbo-Croatian.
With her new work, Yabo, Alexis has returned to her first love: writing fiction.
