Nathan Cortez, JD co-wrote an article on FDA regulation of mobile apps published in the July 24, 2014 issue of NEJM. Luckily, we snagged an opportunity to interview him - you can listen here.
We covered a wide variety of topics including:
Why regulate mHealth anyway?
The new FDA guidance — what needs to be regulated and what does not?
How does the FDA handle at continual updates of mobile health products – so different from the pharmaceuticals that they regulate? How do they decide whether an update constitutes a major change, requiring re-review and one that is minor and does not?
What is “substantially equivalence” and how is it being used in mHealth
How does the FDA handle mHealth products that provide consumer decision support (CDS)? What is the difference between low risk and high risk CDS?
Does the FDA have the right people/processes in place to provide oversight of mHealth?
Professor Cortez teaches and writes in the areas of health law, administrative law, and FDA law. His research focuses on emerging markets in health care and biotechnology. Prof. Cortez has become one of the world’s leading legal scholars on medical tourism, patient mobility, and cross-border health insurance, and has published several articles and book chapters on the legal and ethical implications of these phenomena. His research also addresses mobile health technologies, how to regulate innovations that disrupt static regulatory regimes, the First Amendment restraints on FDA regulation (including FDA's graphic tobacco warnings), immigration federalism, and alternative modes of regulation.

Google+ has many features we or maybe i have neglected to use, well now we are ready to test drive, The "HANGOUTS" yes... we are adding the webcam to The Chat Room show, if it works... It STAY'S.
Adding the webcam brings more concerns, "now your watching me". Brings a smile to my face, and a "OH BOY, WTH I'M DOING"
I still like the idea to give it a try, like i said, if it works it stays... If it doesnt, well we will know tomorrow, and we will have fun Trying, so dont miss the show, I will need all your feedback.
Google+ should you be there?
Google+ is one of the newer social media kids on the block and a lot of businesses are wondering if they need to play in that sandbox as well. So what is Google+ all about?
Google+ is a pretty big place to network. Its platform is like a combination of Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn but it's important to understand that even though there are similarities, G+ does not work like Facebook, Twitter or LinkedIn and must be treated quite uniquely.
So, should you be using Google+? According to Google, there are over 300 million active users but I think it's important to recognize that that number could be quite skewed. Google is a pretty powerful entity to be dealing with and they have a lot of motivational behavioural power over users.
Andrea Lindal, owner of Lexabi Communications will share her experience with Google+. Lexabi Communications provides a full set of online marketing solutions specializing in social media management, email marketing and digital design. Find out more HERE.

Many website owners were startled in late July when their page rankings on Google suddenly flew the coop. When the dust and feathers had cleared, it was apparent that the world's most popular search engine was once more tinkering with its algorithm. However, it wasn't until quite recently that Google not only admitted that they had once again thrown a monkey wrench into the works, but they had also given it a name: Pigeon. During this episode of our radio show, we'lll discuss what "the flock" this means to businesses hoping to achieve Page One ranking on Google. We'll also let you know how this algorithm change now affects local businesses, who previously ranked organically, may now be forced to pony up money for pay-per-click campaigns. And that's not chicken feed.
