    Discerning Between Good and Evil

    in Christianity

In 1 Kings 3:5-9, we read

5 In Gibeon the Lord appeared to Solomon in a dream by night: and God said, Ask what I shall give thee.

6 And Solomon said, Thou hast shewed unto Thy servant David my father great mercy, according as he walked before Thee in truth, and in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart with Thee; and Thou hast kept for him this great kindness, that Thou hast given him a son to sit on his throne, as it is this day.

7 And now, O Lord my God, thou hast made Thy servant king instead of David my father: and I am but a little child: I know not how to go out or come in.

8 And Thy servant is in the midst of thy people which thou hast chosen, a great people, that cannot be numbered nor counted for multitude.

9 Give therefore Thy servant an understanding heart to judge Thy people, that I may discern between good and bad: for who is able to judge this Thy so great a people?

For us to choose to do good, we must first be able to discern and recognize what is good versus what is evil. This text in God's Holy Word hints to the fact that if we have to discern between good and evil, it must mean that sometimes they can look like one and the same thing. For this reason was the Holy Spirit sent to us, "to guide us into all truth". Why? Because without Him, we cannot know truth.

  • Do Not Be Super-Overcome By Evil, But Super-Overcome Evil With (Intrinsic) Good

    in Spirituality

This episode of A Sound Heart explores the necessity to depend upon the Spirit of God to empower us to negotiate the reality of evil in our culture.  Evil is not a theory or an idea.  Real evil does exist, and we live within the realm of its nefarious design.  Believing ones are challenged to be in the world, but not out of the world as a source.  While in this world we will wrestle not against blood and flesh , but against the powers of darkness.

The Helios Biblios Hour (book of the SUN) : I CREATE GOOD AND EVIL

    in Current Events

Mythology being always a popular metaphysics, it is a matter of course that the idea of evil has been personified among all nations. There is no religion in the world but has its demons or evil monsters who represent pain, misery, and destruction. In Egypt the powers of darkness were feared and worshipped under various names as Set or Seth, Bess, Typhon, etc.It always amazes me how many times this  God orders the killing of innocent people even after the Ten Commandments said Thou shall not kill. For example,  God kills 70,000 innocent people because David ordered a census of the people (1 Chronicles 21).God also orders the destruction of 60 cities so that the Israelites can live there.  He orders the killing of all the men, women, and children of each city, and the looting of all of value (Deuteronomy 3).  He orders another attack and the killing of all the living creatures of the city: men and women, young, and old, as well as oxen sheep, and asses (Joshua 6).  In Judges 21 He orders the murder of all the people of Jabesh-gilead, except for the virgin girls who were taken to be forcibly raped and married. When they wanted more virgins, God told them to hide alongside the road and when they saw a girl they liked, kidnap her and forcibly rape her and make her your wife!Just about every other page in the Old Testament has  God killing somebody!  In 2 Kings 10:18-27, God orders the murder of all the worshipers of a different god in their very own church!  In total God kills 371,186 people directly and orders another 1,862,265 people murdered. The God of the Bible also allows slavery, including selling your own daughter as a sex slave (Exodus 21:1-11), child abuse (Judges 11:29-40 & Isaiah 13:16), and bashing babies against rocks (Hosea 13:16 & Psalms 137:9).  This type of criminal behavior should shock any moral person.

Spiritual Tremors - Good vs. Evil

    in Spirituality

Often, when most people pray they feel a sensation of peace and happiness. Other times, there are Christians or believers otherwise people of faith who experience another sense of energy which is negative as well as frightening. In tonight's episode I will explore the many possibilties pertaining to this facisnating yet fear bringing phenomenon. Dark or Light...the balance...why does the body tremble uncontrollaby during prayer and within a church during worship sometimes? Is God trying to tell us something or is the "evil one" taunting us?

Mature Christians are those "who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil" (Hebrews 5:14). "Test everything. Hold on to the good. Avoid every kind of evil" (1 Thessalonians 5:21-22). "Be wise about what is good, and innocent about what is evil" (Romans 16:19). Believers should "Learn to devote themselves to doing what is good" (Titus 3:14). "Train yourself to be godly" (1 Timothy 4:7).

The Tree Of The Knowledge of GOOD and ( live/evil)

    in Current Events

Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?”

2 The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, 3 but God did say, ‘You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.’”

4 “You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman. 5 “For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God,knowing good and evil.

Give me a heart, oh God, to discern between good and evil

    in Christianity

    Proverbs 3:5-7  (KJV) says

5 Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.

6 In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths.

7 Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the Lord, and depart from evil.

So many people are conducting their lives based on "their own understanding" !! And we see the results - misery, chaos, ruin, destruction, unfrutifulness, frustration.  If we don't allow the Lord God to direct us, we, "in our own understanding", will choose the evil way every time, because the evil way looks good to us.

What does it mean to acknowledge the Lord?  Please join us for the study of God's Word.
