John Carver Show - David and Goliath (Malcolm Gladwell)

    in Self Help

The biblical story of David and Goliath is probably the most well-known underdog story in the world.

Goliath is a giant warrior who battles a much-smaller shepherd boy, David. David shoots him with a stone and a sling right between the eyes, Goliath topples over, and David kills him.

David and Goliath is "a metaphor for improbable victories," Gladwell explained during a Ted Talk in September. "Why do we call David an underdog? Well, we call him an underdog because he's a kid, a little kid, and Goliath is this big, strong giant. We also call him an underdog because Goliath is an experienced warrior, and David is just a shepherd. But most importantly, we call him an underdog because Goliath is outfitted with all of this modern weaponry, this glittering coat of armor and a sword and a javelin and a spear, and all David has is this sling."

The first mistake history has made when retelling the tale of David and Goliath is to assume that David was a helpless boy who only had a wimpy slingshot to protect himself, Gladwell said.

That's because there were three types of warriors in ancient times: people who fought with slings and archery (David), foot soldiers who were good at up-close combat with swords (Goliath), and people on horseback.

Goliath was a foot soldier; David was a slinger. When put this way, and you note that Goliath and David were fighting from somewhat of a distance, it makes David's weapon choice seem smart. He's good at attacking with accuracy from afar.

It also makes you understand why Goliath was in trouble the moment David whipped out his sling. If David never got close to him, how could he attack and defeat him?

"Goliath is a sitting duck. He doesn't have a chance," Gladwell concludes.

Barbara Stone takes on Goliath vs. Florida Bar & Judiciary

    in Business

Barbara Stone is a courageous "David" of sorts, taking on Goliath in a federal lawsuit against the Florida Bar for racketeering. She has also sued several judges for the legal abuse she has suffered via going to jail and being placed on house arrest for daring to try to save her mother's life from guardianship. In return for filing the most recent lawsuit, the judge in her mother's guardianship, Michael Genden, has issued a "show cause" order as to why she should not be held in contempt of court. The Order lists violating his Order, which prohibits Barbara from having any indirect or direct contact (ie knowing about her mother's neglect by the guardians), but is completely based upon hearsay and is thus, "no evidence." It certainly is replete with hearsay, which will not support a show cause order. The Judge is further trying to hold her in contempt for filing the Motion to Disqualify him due to his adverse interests. What a mess! Florida statutes say the Judge should disqualify himself because the 14th Amendment due process mandates it. See Caperton vs. Massey United States Supreme Court opinion (2009), which states that a judge must disqualify himself if there could be even an appearance of bias or impropriety, whether or not it subjectively exists. I think we have definitely met that standard here. The media will be at Monday's hearing, so let's cheer and encourage Barbara on as she helps write history!

Holy Nation Church& Rev.Russell Moore: Who You calling A Dog? David&Goliath

    in Religion

Davids opinion of Goliath is very different from King Sauls. David has Faith in God he believes God is stronger and bigger than the giant he's facing. David's battle plan consist of his staff, sling shot, five stones and the name of the God he serves. In the name of his God david see's Goliath as a creature. Goliath is like the Lion and the Bear David defeated in the past. Goliath feels disrepected by Davids lack of fear He's mad and ready to cut david to pieces. Can David put a collar around the Giant mans neck, listen in Sunday Morning as David tackles the real Atomic dog!

HolyNationChurch&Rev.Russell Moore: David &Goliath..Be strong in the Lord

    in Religion

David had already beaten the giant named Goliath long before the battle began. God had trained David to have faith in the strength of the Lord. God gave David a Lion and a Bear to battle and demonstrate God's supernatual power over the beast of the field. When David met Goliath on the battlefield David treated him as a beast of the field. David revused to put on King Sauls battle gear. He did'nt need a shield to beat a Dog. Join me Wednesday night as we look at Goliath through Gods eyes and kill a Giant.

    CONFRONTING YOUR GOLIATH
CONFRONTING THE THINGS IN OUR LIVES THAT ARE BIGGER THAN US.  THINGS IN OUR LIVES THAT INTIMIDATE US.  THE THINGS NEVER CONFRONTED.
The KING IN YOU WORLD LINE is a weekly conversation focusing on the empowerment of men through submission to God and elevation of character. The world-line will confront issues that plague the definition of a modern man. Through Biblical teachings and reflection of self we establish a foundation for pursuing success. In search of their purpose each man will diagnose the King within and improve their kingdoms as husbands, fathers, brothers and leaders of communities.
Proverbs 27:17 Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another.

    The Brothers of Goliath!

    in Religion

    Welcome to Perilous Times!

In this message we will be studying on:

    The Brothers of Goliath!

You have probably read the story about David and Goliath, but did you know that Goliath had four brothers who were also giants?

Did you know that years after David slew Goliath, that David fought against one of Goliath's brothers named Ishbibenob and that Ishbibenob almost killed King David in battle?

One of David's mighty men had to rescue King David and then David's mighty men of valor made David swear an oath to them that he would not go into battle with them anymore, because he had come so close to being killed by this giant who was Goliath's brother.

Did you know that Goliath had three other brothers who also attacked Israel and King David, and one of these had 6 fingers and 6 toes?

Satan can send many giants against you, and he will try and resurrect the giants you have the victory over, but God has the answer for total deliverance and victory in Jesus Christ our Lord.

Join us for a very important prophetic word to the body of Christ!

John Carver Show - Why Some People Hate You!

    in Self Help

On Sunday, May 24, 2015 I shared a sermon called "Why Some People Hate You."  The bulk of my talk came from the Biblical story of King Saul and David.  Here is some of what I shared:

6 It happened as they were coming, when David returned from killing the (Goliath) Philistine, that the women came out of all the cities of Israel, singing and dancing, to meet King Saul, with tambourines, with joy and with [b]musical instruments. 7 The women sang as they [c]played, and said,

    “Saul has slain his thousands,
    And David his ten thousands.”

8 Then Saul became very angry, for this saying [d]displeased him; and he said, “They have ascribed to David ten thousands, but to me they have ascribed thousands. Now what more can he have but the kingdom?” 9 Saul looked at David with suspicion from that day on.

There is a fable of an eagle which could out fly another, and the other didn't like it. The latter saw a sportsman one day, and said to him:

"I wish you would bring down that eagle." The sportsman replied that he would if he only had some feathers to put into the arrow. So the eagle pulled one out of his wing. The arrow was shot, but didn't quite reach the rival eagle; it was flying too high.....
