Citizen-Police Relations and The Redefining of Power

    in Culture

“Police don’t empower the community. The community empowers the police to give full time attention to that which is everyone’s responsibility” is a quote offered for discussion at a recent New Horizons’ Coffee House Volunteer Planning Meeting, by one of the volunteers, a retired police officer.

The notion of it was so out of range for most in attendance as to create a bit of a stir in the ensuing discussion. That meeting discussion and its highlights is brought forth into this evening’s broadcast and will be carried over into our Coffee House Conversations by Conference Call Forum, promising to inspire energetic dialogue on both broadcast and the following forum.

Anastasia and Jack are joined for this evening’s program by guest, Jason Keckler, Acting Captain Frederick City Police.

  • **REBROADCAST** Godly Women and Mental Illness -- Write Stuff -- 9/8/2015

    in Entertainment

Mental illness and Christianity have been at odds with each other for a number of years. For a long while, it was thought that any sign mental illness or cognitive impairment was a result of demonic possession. Later, those who suffered from these disorders were locked up in an institution away from the embarrassment of the family. Further still, as our medical knowledge grew, our diagnostic abilities have expanded our understanding of how the mind works.  And yet, even today, the topic of mental illness is still a taboo subject.

For Christians who suffer from some type of mental illness or disorder, it may hit a double impact.   For the godly woman who is torn between her faith and her health problem, she may be having a hard time with reconciling the condition of her soul with the condition of her mental health.

Do godly women and mental illness go hand in hand? Are they compatible with each other? Can a woman of faith still suffer from bipolar depression or anxiety attacks? Is her faith dependent on her mental state?

We'll be talking about this and more with our guest Barbara Rupp, author of The Woman at the Well Bible Study guide. You can call in at 646-595-2083, press 1 to be live on air. Or, you can download the WLUV radio mobile app. Or click on the link here: http://tobtr.com/7910823  Tune in!

When was the last time you asked your Heavenly Father for wisdom? On a regular basis we flood the Heavens with requests and complaints. Today we will explore the importance of GODLY Wisdom.

"Blessed is the one who finds wisdom, and the one who gets understanding, for the gain from her is better than gain from silver and her profit better than gold. She is more precious than jewels, and nothing you desire can compare with her. Long life is in her right hand; in her left hand are riches and honor. Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace". (PROVERBS 3:13-17)

    Traits of a Godly Leader

    in Religion

This Week's Lesson: "Traits of a Godly Leader" - (Joshua 1:9). Lying, stealing, breaking promises. These are not the kind of qualities we want to see i our leaders. Yet, it is far too common that we see a CEO, politician, civil servant, or even a pastor fall publicly because of such failings. We expect leaders to live in such a way that they are above any kind of reproach. This is especially true within God's Kingdom. The Lord is calling men and women to be people of godly character. Joshua was such a man. He reflected godly characteristics in his life and in his leadership. He serves as a good example for all followers of Christ today.
