Remembering Georges Gurdjieff: Interview with William Patrick Patterson, part 2

    in Spirituality

This week on SOTT Talk Radio we're joined again by William Patrick Patterson. Listeners can hear the first part of our interview with Mr. Patterson here. After many years as a student of The Fourth Way and discovering no answer to the question that had gradually formed in him—what is the 'self' in self-remembering?—Mr. Patterson was called to explore Advaita Vedanta (non-dualism). In doing so, he realized the full significance of the ideas and practices of The Fourth Way and how this sacred and seminal teaching provided not only the necessary foundation, but was applicable on the very highest levels.

Mr. Patterson is the founder/director of The Gurdjieff Studies Program and has led groups, as well as given seminars and talks, throughout the United States for many years. He has written nine books on the teaching, including Struggle of the Magicians, and has directed, written and narrated the award-winning video trilogy The Life & Significance of George Ivanovitch Gurdjieff, and the just-released video Introduction to Gurdjieff's Fourth Way: From Selves to Individual Self to The Self. Mr. Patterson's latest book is Georgi Ivanovitch Gurdjieff: The Man, The Teaching, His Mission.

Tune in this Sunday November 30th, 2014 from 2-3pm EST (11-12am PST / 8-9pm CET/ 7-8pm UTC) for another enlightening discussion on the meaning of all and everything.

    St. Fidelis

    in Religion

Rebroadcast of the long running radio program, "The Ave Maria Hour", a presentation of the Franciscan Friars of the Atonement. www.AtonementFriars.org

St. Fidelis - A former lawyer who left his profession to become a Capuchin Franciscan priest, Saint Fidelis of Sigmaringen has his liturgical memorial on April 24.

Leaving his legal practice behind, Mark decided to give his life directly to the service of Christ and the Church. In short order he received ordination as a priest, and joined the Capuchin Franciscans in Freiburg.

During 1614 a Swiss Catholic bishop had sought help from the Capuchins, to restore the faith and counteract the spread of Calvinist Protestantism. In 1621, Fidelis was sent on the mission. He brought just four items: a Bible, a prayer book, a crucifix and a copy of the Capuchin rule.

The winter of 1621-22 was a busy period of preaching, instruction and theological disputation for the Franciscan priest. He preached not only in the pulpits of Catholic churches, but also in public places, and even in the meeting-places of the Calvinists themselves. Some Swiss Protestants responded with hostility, but many others were also brought back to the Church.

Like many cases of religious persecution during this time, Fidelis’ treatment at the hands of the Calvinists did not stem exclusively from doctrinal disagreement. National and cultural tensions also contributed, with many Swiss Protestants suspecting that the Catholic mission was part of an Austrian plot against their nation.

Fidelis' life bridged the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, a time of religious conflict in Western Europe. He died at the hands of a mob while preaching in Switzerland, where he had gone to combat the Calvinist heresy.

I always wanted to play it the way it came to me intuitively and thats what I’ve been doing ever since! I have always played my music to relax and heal myself until about 10 years ago I realized the power that was in it.

Deepertruth Tuesday Our Lady of Quadalupe and the St. Lucy Story (8:00 Central)

    in Religion

Tuesdays are basically open nights for interviews, topics of interest, and featured articles from the Deepertruthblog.  Each week this will be an opportunity for Deepertruth to promote upcoming events such as Ross and Margie of Roaming Romans.  They will have the mike from time to time as they prepare for their Jerusalem and Rome trips.

It was the fall of 1978 that I began to rediscover perhaps for the first time the importance of my Catholic Faith. The story of St. Lucyintrigued me greatly because of her courage.

St. Lucy lived in the early 4th century during a massive persecution of the Catholic Church. She was a very beautiful young woman whom I wondered how she would have lived in our time.

As a young beautiful woman, many men wanted to take her hand in marriage and her Mother wanted to arrange a wedding for St. Lucy. That never materialized because of St. Lucy’s love and commitment to Jesus Christ. She wanted to be one of Our Lady’s maids who are presented before the King (Psalms 45:15).

St. Lucy dedicated her life solely to the Lord. She would pray at the tomb of St. Agatha and through her intercession, her Mother was cured of a long illness miraculously.

This led to her Mother’s conversion to Christ, but that did not stop the suitors seeking St. Lucy’s hand in marriage.
