    Natural Parenting meets Entrepreneur.

    in Women

Going back to work is a  often a very difficult decision for women after they have a baby.  Many women can't ignore the pull of the heartstrings, their instinctual calling to be the primary carer for their baby.  Many women turn to starting a business for the flexibility which allows their children to be their first priority.   The first few years of your child's life can be the most difficult and the most rewarding.  It can bring many challenges - are you doing it 'right?, what are other people doing?  When will you go back to work?  Natural Parenting not only supports your baby's natural development, it supports you.  Today we talk with Kristy Pillinger, creator and founder of Australia's Natural Parenting Magazine, Nurture on her journey into Motherhood and how holding her baby in her arms for the first time was also the beginning of her journey as an entrepreneur and how the two can work hand in hand.

Parenting the Argumentative, Irritable, Angry Child

    in Parents

Parenting a child that constantly argues, is often moodly, and is generaly disagreeable is difficult and often feels impossible. Some of these children will be diagnosed with Oppositional Defiant Disorder and some will never be diagnosed. What causes children to be this way, and what parenting techniques work? Host Dawn Davenport, Executive Director of Creating a Family, the national adoption & infertility education and support organization interviewed Dr. Russell A. Barkley, a clinical professor of psychiatry and pediatrics at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. He is the author of 21 books and manuals, including Your Defiant Child: Eight Steps to Better Behavior and Taking Charge of ADHD: The Complete, Authoritative Guide for Parents.

    in Family

Suparna Dhar founded life’s canvas in 2006 (www.lifescanvas.co.uk) and supports mums who have been through domestic abuse to gain the confidence to create happy, healthy and fun families.  She is ‘The Freedom Coach’ - Coach, Trainer and Author.

Suparna’s calling is to break the cycle of domestic abuse by empowering mums.  Over the last 7 years she has worked with mums who have suffered all types of abuse in safe houses/refuges across The London Borough of Ealing.  She has designed and developed Learning to be Free which is the only parenting programme in the UK which has been uniquely designed for mums who have experienced domestic abuse.

Suparna runs healthy eating programmes in schools, children centres and women’s safe houses which combines coaching and cooking and looks at areas such as food poverty, healthy packed lunches and snacks.

She is absolutely passionate about healthy eating and has written a  children’s cookery book called Cooking together: Step by Step Guide to Yummy, Healthy and Fun recipes with recipes shared by women who have been affected by domestic abuse with proceeds going to Women’s Aid.

Suparna is Co-Founder of Filling The Void which is a support group for women who have experienced domestic abuse and want to speak their truth in a safe, non-judgemental and empowering environment.

Suparna’s clients include private clients, schools, councils, housing associations and charities.

As a mother with two children aged 10 and 4, she understands the daily challenges and stresses that being a parent can bring.  She says to each client “I can assure you there is nothing you can share with me that either I haven’t experienced personally or another parent hasn’t shared with me before!”
