A Live Interview with the Amazing Dionne Kirby

    in Music

Singer, songwriter and producer Dionne Kirby (professionally known as Dionne), is a contemporary soul-singing recording artist, whose songwriting skills caught the attention of Billboard, with her first EP release “Living In The Music”. Dionne has performed in various major cities throughout the U. S. including: New York, Chicago, Washington D.C., Philadelphia and Atlanta and has graced the stage with respected entertainers in the industry, such as Jennifer Holliday, Jillian Michaels, Tanya Blount and Niecy Nash. With her upcoming new album being released independently, Dionne will captivate audiences with her signature melodic vibrations and uplifting lyrical content.

A native of Dallas, TX, Dionne attended the Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts (also known as Arts Magnet), where former incomparable alums, singer Norah Jones and Erykah Badu attended. An avid writer, she earned the Editor-in-Chief role at Arts Magnet, where she was chosen for studio recordings with the acclaimed Dallas Black Dance Theater. Her classical training and vocal technique made her one of the sought-after upperclassmen at her school, where she acquired her first professional gig as a background singer, which steered her in the direction to perform at the prestigious Fairmount Hotel’s Venetian Room and invitation to sing at Carnegie Hall with her high school choir.

After graduating high school, Dionne attended Lincoln University in Pennsylvania, majoring in English and Education. Although she was an astute academic student, her desire to pursue her love for music increased. Following graduating from Lincoln University with her Bachelor’s degree, Dionne received opportunities to sing background for gospel star LaShun Pace and was lead vocalist for The Odyssey Big Band, singing jazz arrangements of Aretha Franklin, Natalie Cole and Norah Jones.

    Je Suis Charlie

    in Politics Progressive

Liberal Dan Radio returns to Thursdays at 8pm Central this week, January 7th, 2015.

A terrorist attack in France at the headquarters of the satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo has caused shockwaves around the world. Muslim extremists attacked the paper for some cartoons it has done. Can one really claim to have faith if one is effected by simple drawings mocking ones religion? Shouldn't ones faith be able to overcome such feelings if ones faith is strong? This story also revealed another item that Conservatives like to harp on. Conservatives believe that Liberals are soft on Muslim extremism and would allow so called "Sharia Law" to be enacted in the US. I will explain how that is absolutely untrue.

It is not just Muslim extremists who want to attack free speech. Kirby Delauter doesn't seem to quite get that simple fact. I will talk about his claims and the hiliarious response to them as well.

Finally, I will be discussing the Steve Scalise scandal that continues to run through the media and explain why his choice to knowingly accept an invitation to speak given to him by a person known to him to be a racist is the biggest problem here.

Those stories, headlines, tweet of the week and more this week on Liberal Dan Radio, Talk From The Left, That's Right.

Terry Hanck & 2 Couch Kid New Music Segments Liz Mandeville & Kirby Sewell

    in Music

Terry Hanck fell in love with California in the early 60's and also found his love of music there. He was performing in Northern CA when he was asked to join Elvin Bishop's Band.  It took 3 requests, but finally in 1976 he did and spent the next 10 years touring the world and performing with Elvin.

He began his own band in 1987 and continued to build his reputation as the finest Sax man in the blues, if not all musical genres. In 2010 he met Chris "The Kid" Andersen on the LRBC and brought him to America...for this alone Terry should be thanked. He has has been nominated Best Instrumentalist Saxophone in the BMAs twice, winning once and has won numerous other awards.

Terry's latest album is entitled Gotta Bring It On Home To You, and he will join me to talk about his wonderful career and what is next on his plate.

It is Chefjimi and Leslie's Anniversary so he will not be joining us this evening, but might be sneaking in a call next week.

We will have TWO Couch Kid New Music Segments to celebrate!

First, Liz Mandeville returns with her new album, Heart 'O' Chicago and we will talk about what she has been doing since she last sat here in August of 2012, and since I last saw her in Clarksdale this past spring.

Then Kirby Sewell returns with his new album, which dropped this past week.  entitled Girl With A New Tattoo it is a sure fire winner nd I am excited to speak with Kirby about all that has happened in his life and career since he took his Seat On the Couch back in July of 2012.
