SORT BY Relevancy
A recent report said that two gay NFL players are refusing to come out publicly as gay because they don't want a lot of media attention for any kind of big announcement. It's an interesting revelation that both reflects and belies what we think we know about professional athletes.
On the one hand they want all the attention they can get to maximize exposure. Exposure means more of the all-mighty dollar that so many of them seek in the short span of their careers. On the flip side, we often hear that athletes don't want to be known as the "gay athlete" but just want to be known for their athletic accomplishments.
We discuss the idea of the media keeping athletes in the closet, and also the impact that big-name professional athletes can have when they come out publicly.
Plus, we have the growing attention being paid to trans issues in sports and the generosity of one young gay professional athlete named Robbie Rogers.

What is Media? What is Media Literacy? What is Media Education?
We began broadcasting in 2009 with Frank Baker as our first guest. Frank Baker, I call my mentor. He is a well-know and renowned media literacy educator. He influenced me and caused me to want to learn and to teach everyone about the influences of media messages that surround them every day. On our first show, Frank talked with me and shared What is Media, What is Media Literacy and Media Education. The show is about learning how to interpret, analyze, understand, and create media messages that surround us all every day.
Today’s show we are going to replay that episode and next week’s episode we will be part of the 1st Annual United States Media Literacy Week.
Replay - On Tuesday, July 1, 2014, 5 p.m. EST, Young Media Critics talk with Frank W. Baker, media literacy education consultant and author about the importance of medial literacy education to children, parents and other concerned adults who work with young people.
Frank W. Baker is a media literacy education consultant and the author of three books, including Media Literacy In the K-12 Classroom (ISTE, 2012). He contributed two chapters to Mastering Media Literacy (Solution Tree, 2014). In November 2013, Frank was a co-recipient of the National Telemedia Council‘s annual Jessie McCanse Award given for individual contributions to the field of media literacy over at least 10 years. What makes the deviance of homosexuality any different from any other sexual deviancy, or socially destructive action or lifestyle?
The arguments are WEAK! And I haven’t ever heard a sound or scientific justification for what makes practicing being gay “Ok” or “Right”?!? Will someone please explain to me what makes the support and promotion and active lifestyle healthy and permeable? Why are we doing it?
Today’s society is downright championing for the homosexual agenda in the way that they reward, praise and even mislabel it “bravery” for people choosing to publicly live an active homosexual lifestyle! They say the most ignorant things like: “If you aren’t gay then how does it affect you…” about things like gay marriage and social propaganda!
I feel this is life going to #HellInAHandBasket on the #HellExpress at that! This has been the most demonic act I’ve seen thus far! I want someone to explain to me logically and practically why this lifestyle is “ok” and what it is that I am overlooking in my critical perspectives and assessments about it?
Call in and share your knowledge and wisdom with the world! (347)637-3528 Midnight till 2AM Eastern time…
In all of my many discussions about this topic, No one has ever provided me with substantial evidence to prove/disprove the answer to this topic. With so many theories and philosophies about homosexuality, I'd like to hear your views about whether or not someone can be born gay. As a matter of fact, can someone be born straight? Is sexuality something that you're born with? This is dialogue is not to condemn people on their choices, but instead, it's to gather thoughts of your understanding. Is sexuality based on environment and upbringing, or is it something biological? At what point/age does sexual desires begin to arise?
I look forward to a great, and informative dialogue. Tune in from 9pm-11pm est, to "Darryel's Daily Dialogue...where positive words, manifest positive actions.
