Autism and autism spectrum disorder (ASD) are both general terms for a group of complex disorders of brain development. These disorders are characterized, in varying degrees, by difficulties in social interaction, verbal and nonverbal communication and repetitive behaviors.
About 1 in 68 children in the U.S. is diagnosed with autism, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), in a report from 2014. This represents a 30% increase from the 1 in 88 reports of children reported to have autism in 2012. White children are more likely than Black or Hispanic children to receive an autism diagnosis. And Black children and girls are more likely to have intellectual disability along with their autism. The most notable shift is the growing proportion of those who have average or above-average intelligence, rising from 30 percent in 2002 to nearly 50 percent in 2010.

A 2012 Nielsen study concluded that Black American buying power will reach 1 Trillion dollars by 2015. The BE piece tackled the data from the perspective of how marketers and advertisers have taken this group for granted, but maybe shouldn’t given all the money it has to spend. Many have argued that more businesses ought to be investing in emerging markets (those in predominantly minority communities, in business owned by minorities and those servicing minority communities).
Should Black America be proud of just making up "13% of the total population" yet spending at a rate of growth that outpaces the remaining population by 30 percent? The answer should be "NO!" It should be noted, the report’s data which shows that the Black American demographic is younger, more educated and have higher incomes than commonly believed, BUT what can be said about the fact that we aren’t retaining that wealth for the long term and at a rate sufficient to pass down wealth to subsequent generations?

In the last century or so, the media and its influence on the societies, has grown exponentially with the advance of technology. First there was the telegraph and the post offices, then the radio, the newspaper, magazines, television and now the internet and the new media including cell phones, tablets, etc. There has been much discussion about the negative influences of mass media, which we must understand as a responsible person of a society, but TGHE will attempt tackle this topic from a positive point of reference. Recently, a popular televsion show "Scandal" attempted to address a major concern of race relations in American society. TGHE asks the question, "1. Do you think the cries for Justice will lower after the show? 2. Do you think it will increase? 3. Or there will thing just remain the "same"?
Before discussing the influence of mass media on society it is imperative to explain the three basic functions of mass media; they are providing news/information, entertainment and education. The GreenHouse FX Radio Show will welcome Alanda Gregory, Life Coach and Entertainment Manager and M. Gene Lincoln III, Founder and CEO of Lincs Records.
