Today on "It's My House" we shall attend Fundraising School to learn about "Fundraising Literacy". To have success in legal matters, political matters, and in many other areas of life including business life, one must become "Fundraising Literate". Having that in mind we shall cover the very basics of of fundraising, which we shall call the "fundamentals of fundraising".
This includes various "fundraising distictions", fundraising training, and various fundraising strategies.
As usual please have pen and paper available or your computer of choice so that you can take notes and please feel free to call in and ask questions or give your comment.
It's Aardvark Friday and DocTG invites listeners to understand the importance of how words are used in fundraising. The nonprofit sector is laden with words that seem to be in the state of "lack" -- Doctor Gordon encourages 501c3's to use more powerful words to express who they are and what they do. In doing so, donors and volunteers will be more apt to participate in your cause. Doctor Gordon challenges each organization to begin finding a new way of describing the work they do vs what they don't do. In the not for profit industry this would mean changing how one even identifies the industry as a social profit instead of a non profit. Let's speak into existence who we are and what we bring forth.

Today on "It's My House" we are honored with the opportunity to speak with a grassroots icon, Candace "Candy" Lightner who is the founder and first president of M.A.D.D. (Mothers Agaisnst Drunk Drivers). In addition, she is involved with "We Save Lives" which is an organization that promotes "responsible driving".
Ms. Lightner also is president of CL and Associates. She provides consulting services for clients as a legislative advocate, manager, fundraiser, trainer, advocate, and counselor to both businesses and issue driven groups across the country. These issues include traffic safety, arts and music education, victims rights, alcohol and other drugs, youth oriented programs, hunger, anti-discrimination, and grief support. She has consulted with senior executives and board members on all aspects of nonprofit management.
Ms. Lightner is a prolific fundraiser as she has raised over $50,000,000. Of course our topic today is "Fundraising Literacy".

Special APR event:

8:00 PM Eastern Time
Calling all Patriots!
We invite you to join us for a special AmericanPatriotRadio.com event Friday, November 21, 2014. We will be doing a tribute to the memory of our 35th president, John F. Kennedy.
We won’t be doing a rehash of the thousands of theories, yet to be fully explained, of the circumstances surrounding his untimely death, but rather a celebration of his life,.
We will be discussing his accomplishments, his great initiatives, his disappointments, and for sure what it was like living in the U.S.A. during his administration during those seemingly magical 1000 Days of Camelot!
We will have audio clips and music and historical information that hopefully will bring you back to some good memories, in a time that most historians believe was the end of our innocence as a people and as a nation.
Plan to join us to share a smile, shed a tear, and for those of us who were there over half a century ago, just remember what it was like to experience the good feelings we had for the future.
There are those who will still say on Saturday morning that time travel is impossible; those are the people who obviously didn’t hear our show Friday night! LOL
Don’t be one of those scientifically uninformed people, plan to join us and enjoy being transported back to a time when life was simpler and hearts were filled with hope and optimism for the future.

Meet one of the busiest and hardest working ladies at the Jersey Shore. It’s been said that if you want something done, give it to a busy person. So, you probably should give it to Beverly Beveridge. People tell me I’m busy, but Beverly’s schedule puts me, and probably you, to shame. She’s been involved with radio (Tuesday Tunes at 2 on 1450 WCTC Radio in New Brunswick), and is a lifelong pianist who teaches at the Goddard School in Tinton Falls. Her PR background propelled her into promoting musicians such as Slim Chance and the Gamblers and many others. She’s PR Director for FMC Productions in NY, PR for the House of Cupcakes of Princeton, winner of Cupcake Wars on Food Network; Independent Writer for Jersey Shore Restaurant and Events for Examiner.com and NAWBO-CJ; writer for examiner.com and Trip Advisor and www.visitthejerseyshore.com. Bev also works closely with the Tourism Bureau and all chambers to promote their events. See what I mean about busy? As a member of the working press, she was granted an official White House Press Pass and covered President Obama’s visit to Asbury Park with Gov Christie. And somehow Bev even found the time to participate in the Wrecking Ball video with Bruce Springsteen. Other projects Beverly will share include the Jersey Girl Barefoot Sandal and some of her favorite fundraising projects. We won’t say that Bev has it all, but she sure does it all! After the interview, visit After Hours at Jersey Coastal Live for more info.
